Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive and Oncoplastic Surgeon Mr Dickson studied medicine at the University of Cambridge where he graduated with honours. He has completed formal UK Plastic Surgery Training having passed the official UK Plastic Surgery Examination (FRCS plast). Over and above this he has undertaken additional High Level European Qualifications in Breast Surgery (EBSQ) and Hand Surgery (EDHS). He began his surgical training in London and went on to do specialist Plastic Surgery Training on the prestigious South West Peninsula Rotation (in Bristol, Exeter & Plymouth). During his training, he was one of only a few trainees in the country to be awarded a National Interface Fellowship in Breast Surgery (through competitive national selection) based at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. This has afforded him broad training in all aspects of breast surgery including oncology, reconstruction and aesthetics. He has also been awarded National Travelling Fellowships enabling him to visit Specialist Units across the UK and abroad in Toronto, Vienna and Mannitoba. He runs regular weekly clinics for patients requiring breast reconstruction or treatment for other abnormalities of breast appearance. He is dedicated to supporting the Primrose Breast Unit to help the team to deliver the very best service for patients with breast cancer. He is a member of the hospitals breast cancer and skin cancer multi-disciplinary teams. Every 2nd and 4th weeks of the month he attends Stratton Hospital in Bude where he runs a local anaesthetic operating list and a general plastic surgery clinic. He has undertaken a dedicated aesthetic training fellowship at the Cadogan Clinic in Sloane Square in London, helping him to offer the most aesthetic outcomes from surgery. He has a keen interest in education and innovation and is the Educational Lead for the British Association of Plastic Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgeons Innovation Group. He has produced 24 publications in the scientific literature, 1 book publication, 1 educational website for plastic surgery trainees and several educational smart phone apps for medical students. Mr Dickson likes to give his patients time and listens to their ideas, concerns and expectations. He likes exploring new and better ways to share information and to enhance understanding, learning and recall. His work on education is of relevance to patients and the public too. He always seeks to convey information in a clear way, such that his patients can find it easy to understand their treatments including the likely outcome and potential risks. When he is not at work he enjoys sports and outdoor activities and spending time with friends and family. He loves living in Plymouth and considers it to be a real privilege to work in such a beautiful part of the world.
