I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. I was naturally a bit worried as two friends had unfortunately died from it. As soon as Mr Beatty sat down in a matter of fact, relaxed, and confident manner I began to feel at ease. He allied my fears of dying almost instantly as his explanation of what was actually " going on " inside me and in layman terms what the Prostate was, and looked like. He explained the two types of surgery, explained in such an easy way what he would do, what the Robot did, the side effects to me, answered every question without hesitation. That made me realise I had an experienced expert surgeon. he explained Nerve sparing and total removal. Showed me on a computer the prognosis for my personal circumstances which enabled me to decide on which option to select. This made me feel I was in control which was reassuring. He never applied any pressure for me to decide there and then but to think about, and talk to Radiology so I was satisfied I could make the correct decision for me. That was very important. I did have a consultation with the consultant Oncology Radiologist and decided to have surgery and contacted Mr Beatty to inform him. From there I attended the Pre Op assessment which was extremely thorough and reassuring especially when the Nurses spoke so highly of him, a young Doctor even said " He is incredible, we call him Maestro " I booked into a hotel in Leicester the day before so I wouldn't be stressed trying to get there on time. On the day of the operation he greeted me, not as a friend but friendly and I suppose as a Guardian Angel and discussed the operation I had elected for to check I was still happy with it. From then everything went like clockwork. I woke up and the post op care was incredible. I did have an a slight post op problem, not serious but Mr. Beatty phoned me when he heard to make sure the treatment was correct and check I was OK. Mr Beatty obviously cares for his patients throughout the whole process not just the surgery. So Now 4 months on Ive had the first follow up check ( after 3 months ) with Mr Beatty. My PSA level is 0. I followed his advice on exercise, I have regained full control of my bladder and been back at work for a month. Fit, probably fitter than before the surgery. Anyone reading this who is either deciding on surgery under Mr Beatty or trying to decide and has worries I say. " You cannot receive better treatment or care if you are Royalty " I would happily have Mr Beatty operate on me again. Mr. Beatty, I cannot thank enough for, and its no exaggeration to say, for saving my life. For restoring my quality life to better than it was. You & your Team and McMillan Nurses ( who I cannot praise highly enough ) Mr Beatty You truly are " Maestro " Philip M Arnold

I was 56 when first told my PSA reading was of concern. Following several blood test taken at three monthly intervals I was sent for an MRI scan and then biopsy. It was at this point I was referred to Mr Beatty to discuss my options one of which was radical nerve sparing prostatectomy - I had been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The MacMillan nurse who was one of many who spoke to me at the time said what a lovely man he is, she was full of confidence and praise for him. I had my operation November 2018 by way of DaVinci robot assisted keyhole surgery. Firstly from what I can see, feel and understand, what an incredible surgeon he is. He also comes across as a really nice person. At every stage he explained things in a calm, confident and balanced way. I can say, that no one could have put me more at ease, or have made me feel more confident about the outcomes than this expert in his field. Although amongst this positive vibe he was very clear as to the possibilities of the less hopefull outcome and effects. As per the previous writer my operation too went well. My post surgery, and recovery has been good, with minimal side effects. I will be for ever grateful for all Mr Beatty has done and the way in which he has carried it out. As well as for the state of the art equipment like the DaVinci robot. He also, despite being called to an unexpected emergency after my operation found time to call my wife to say how the operation had gone, and came to the ward to check my early recovery. If you are ever unfortunate enough to need to see a Consultant in urology/oncology you would be lucky if it was Mr Beatty. Thank you.

I was referred to Mr Beatty for radical prostatectomy after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. I had already discovered that this doctor had a reputation of being a very good surgeon, and a really nice bloke. Well, I was given the choice of conventional or DaVinci robot assisted keyhole surgery, and opted for the latter. I can only say, that no one could have put me more at ease, and made me feel more confident about the outcomes than this expert in his field. The operation went well, and post surgery, my recovery has gone well, with minimal side effects. It is surgeons like Mr Beatty, assisted by state of the art equipment like the DaVinci robot that make the NHS great. Most notable were the little things, like Mr Beatty calling my wife to say how the op had gone, and seeing him on the ward rounds, and at future outpatients appointments, and not an understudy. Couldn't have got more personal and expert service if I'd gone private.
