My GP suggested a referral to Mr Hawe for a further opinion, having been told at a different hospital I needed a TAH/BSO, which seemed somewhat drastic & probably via open surgery with a very long recovery time. I saw Mr Hawe on a Wednesday & paperwork for my op at Countess arrived on the Saturday! So quick. At my initial consultation with Mr Hawe I knew I was in very safe hands, he gave his time & listened, he was so calm & reassuring. He confirmed that NO, I did NOT need a TAH/BSO, but just a BSO via keyhole (due to being post menopausal he felt this was by far the best option). The op at The Countess was on a Monday, almost a year to the day that I initially went to another hospital's A & E Dept (not my local hospital & not The Countess) in the early hours. (The issue came to light as an incidental finding, &, looking back, probably over about 8 years or so I experienced some very very minor slight twinges which could be as far apart as a couple of years & certainly gave me no cause for concern). The op went very well, I did NOT require any additional pain relief & by tea time I did about 30 steps on the ward. Fortunately I didn't need a catheter or drain & I was glued, not stitched, all great. I went home on the Tuesday & on the Wed a.m. took a 10 min stroll, then had an hour's walk on the flat that afternoon. I looked after myself carefully & walked every day gradually introducing inclines, 2 weeks later I was back hiking. The letter to confirm (thankfully) all was fine following the op came very quickly. Fabulous service. Keyhole was amazing, I found it hard to believe I'd had major surgery. I don't think I can suggest an improvement in Mr Hawe's service, he's an absolute star. Also the recovery room nurse was so lovely with me, so too were the staff on Ward 40. What I would say to ladies with similar issues is, don't hesitate to seek a further opinion. Before attending my local hospital & seeing Mr Hawe, I also had a private appointment with another lovely Consultant whose opinion was the same as Mr Hawe's, but this hospital was 145 miles away. So, thank you Mr Hawe for looking after me.
