I was admitted to PoW, Bridgend in August 2007 after a very serious RTI. After a botched 24 hours where staff had their eye off ball it was finally recognised that I had a severe internal wound, a 2cm laceration of my small intestine which had been leaking fluids into my stoma.
Mr Shami was the consultant who carried out an exploratory laperotomy and successfully repaired it. After the op I was sent directly to ICU and the family called in to say goodbye as I had developed sepsis, peritonitis etc - I pulled through.
I remember Mr Shami coming to visit me on the ward some weeks after, he was fabulous, his humanity shone through.
I saw him again a year later when I had a consultation with him regarding some repair work, he was warm and friendly and described the events around my surgery which clearly had affected him too. It was very emotional for me to learn more about the most traumatic episode in my life.
My eep thanks go to Mr Shami, he was a total contrast to the consultant I saw in Swansea for follow up work
I have been under mr shami for 9 years for ulcerative colitis and had my bowels removed and j pouch created.. mr shami is an out standing surgeon, and makes you feel at ease, and trust him 100% nice caring man.
This man saved my life. I was told by several people that he tries things that other surgeons do not. He is an amazing man and despite my having three months to live he went ahead anyway and stopped the cancer in bowel spreading beyond what had already happened. That was two years ago and I have recently got an all-clear. If Mr Shami is your surgeon you are in the best hands.
If you want the best surgeon he is your man
