Really nice man. He's friendly, explains things in simple and easy to understand language, and despite that I had only seen him once many months before my surgical appointment- he recognised me, so I could tell he pays close attention to his patients (I honestly wasn't expecting him to recognise me at all, since I know how many people surgeons like him must meet). Mr Mcvie recently operated on my shoulder. I was nervous (having never been operated on before), but (although my surgical wound is still relatively fresh as I type this) I'm glad he did. My shoulder already feels much more supported than it did before the operation. Before finally being referred to Mr Mcvie, I had been passed around to various different outpatient consultants for well over a year after my accident. From them, I recieved so many conflicting opinions (most of them told me to just keep waiting for new growth, despite me now realising my bones just were not going to regenerate without intervention). Until Mr Mcvie, I never even saw the same consultant twice - I began to feel attending the outpatients was invain. Mr Mcvie thankfully was honest with me, looked through my xrays, gave my shoulder a good feel and very straightforwardly told me the bone was malunion and wasn't going to recover without help. It wasn't necessarily the news I hoped for, but it was good to finally hear an expert speak with such conviction. Fast forward to the day of surgery, and he was very clear how the operation would be performed, what the risks were/positives outweighed and how the wound would heal. After the procedure, he made sure to book follow up appointments with me to track my progress and also ensured that I will get the physio care I need in the meantime (he also explained and demonstrated the exercises clearly himself before I left hospital). I've no complaints and would reccomend Mr Mcvie.

I was under the care of James McVie for two years 2013-2015 whilst I went through reconstruction of my tibia via external fixation. I would 100% recommend him to any patient. He is approachable and able to explain complex cases in an understandable way so that a patient knows what to expect pre, during and post surgery. He was always on hand to answer any questions I had, but above all is just a really nice, caring guy that has no "God complex" whatsoever which you see in many consultants.

Did a subacromial decompression a few years back on right shoulder. Good communication before & after with excellent post operative results. Need the same op on left shoulder now & more than happy to go to Mr McVie.
