I attended Southmead Hospital on 24.12 2015 to have my Gaul Bladder removed Dr Hewes was my surgeon and explained the procedure in full. He told me he was going to try and remove it by key hole surgery, but that in my case this might not be possible and he may have to change to open surgery. Well because of Dr Hewes skill, he did manage to remove it by Key hole surgery. It is now 8 months since the operation and I am back to my old self. Mr Hewes is a nice man and all the staff are wonderful at Southmead I would like to thank all the nurses who looked after me over the Xmas period Kindest Regards

I saw Mr Hewes whilst in Southmead Hospital he did not listen to me and made assumptions about me that were totally incorrect. Mr Hewes told me that I had a mild case of acute pancreatitus and I was discharged. I told him and subsequent doctors how much pain I was in and that it was ongoing and not intermittent but he still had me discharged.. I was a very fit and healthy 55 year old woman with no previous illnesses, I ate well and drank very little and as a doctor surely alarm bells should have rang regarding other causes. Because of his incompetence my condition is potentially worse than it should be as I am awaiting diagnosis and I could possibly have pancreatic cancer as I did not receive the treatment I should have had until much later. I have refused to see him again, however I would say that I have now been referred to the BRI and they have been really much more helpful and efficient. I was told by the doctor at the BRI that I should not have been allowed to go in so much pain - Mr Hewes was not concerned with this at all.
