James Gibbs is the first surgeon to take my pain seriously. Having been on the NHS waiting list for more than two years, I was left feeling alone with no help of medical intervention for my painful knees. Then I met James who listened to me and acted to help me quickly. A shining light in the medical profession. I would, and have, recommended him to others. A brilliant, caring surgeon.

Mr Gibbs replaced my arthritic left hip at the Montefiore Hospital on 1st February 2024. On the afternoon of the operation I was walking the hospital corridors under the supervision of the physios, and the next day I was sent home. It is now three weeks since the operation and I am walking pain free, with a little support from a crutch on longer journeys. James has a calm and professional manner that immediately installs confidence; he does not play god like some surgeons, but treats you like a fellow human being. I am grateful to James and his team for a successful hip replacement which is allowing me to resume an active life.

I have greatly appreciated the skill and care given to me including the time spent by James, the physios and nursing staff at the Nuffield. I am now just over 2 weeks postoperative with my mobility and pain level progressively improving. With continued judicious exercise I am looking forward to the prospect of being able to get back into my racing sailing dinghy in the next few months. Many thanks.

I am delighted with my progress as it is now only two weeks after my replacement hip operation. I only use a crutch for a little support and hope to walk without it in the next week. After hearing about 18month waits on the NHS, I was recommended Mr Gibbs by a relative who works in orthopaedics. From first meeting, I felt comfortable and confident I had made a good choice. My first consultation appointment was a month’s wait, showing how much in demand Mr Gibbs is. The meeting was for half an hour and very helpful. He examined my hip, reviewed the X-ray taken at Princess Royal Hospital, then fully explained what the operation involved, including possible problems. I was informed that the wait for surgery would be 3 months. This happened a little sooner at the end of January in Brighton Nuffield. All went smoothly with the operation. I felt I was in good hands with all staff involved, including the anaesthetist, theatre assistants, nurses and Mr Gibbs himself. All questions were answered and I was kept informed at all stages, while I was still conscious. After two nights in hospital I returned home. My mobility has improved daily. As mentioned earlier on this site, it is vitally important to regularly complete the exercise program. I would 100% recommend Mr Gibbs as an orthopaedic surgeon.

When I was advised by the physiotherapist I was seeing that she believed I was in need of a hip replacement, and the whole process started, I was terrified. The gift she gave me was to recommend Mr Gibbs and I now wish I hadn't spent weeks and weeks worrying about this! I was in the safest and most skilled hands and also with someone who did their utmost to put me at my ease. l have Post Viral Syndrome - chronic fatigue etc - and was very concerned how the whole process would affect this - nothing! Although I am still in the recovery period, I immediately knew this operation had been life changing and can't thank Mr Gibbs and his team enough for their skill and care.
