Mr Gibbs performed a hip resurfacing operation for me 6 weeks ago today at the Nuffield Haywards Heath, and I am already extremely pleased with the result. This was the first operation I have had for over 20 years so I was nervous, especially when I was told that I would have a spinal injection in order that I could have just a light general anaesthetic. The spinal injection (preceded by a local anaesthetic) did not hurt at all, which was a huge relief. Mr Gibbs explained everything that I was expected to experience both for the operation and afterwards. This description could not have been more accurate, which I have found to be extremely reassuring. I was on my feet the same afternoon of the operation and able to move about on my own on crutches within a day. Upon discharge from the hospital I was given stronger painkillers in addition to ibuprofen and paracetamol. I did not have to take a single one of the stronger painkillers, and stopped using the ibuprofen and paracetamol within about 3 weeks. I reduced to one crutch within just under 2 weeks and ceased using the crutches at all within a few weeks. At 6 weeks I am able to walk long distances (this past weekend I walked about 10 miles one day, followed by similar distances over the following few days) without any pain or even any discomfort. For the past few years I had been in constant pain, and to be free from this now is wonderful. Everything has gone extremely well in respect of my operation and so I thoroughly recommend Mr Gibbs expertise.
