Mr James Childs

I recently met Mr Childs for a second opinion regarding my fractured clavicle. He explained the nature of the injury and outlined the most appropriate recovery plan to me in a very clear and uncomplicated manner. He was very welcoming and thorough in his examination of my injury.I felt that he was genuinely concerned for my wellbeing It was a pleasure to meet him and I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending him to others. I have needed two partial knee replacements and both have been successfully completed by Mr Childs. He explained the pros and cons in really simple terms and the results have been nothing short of life changing.

Mr Child’s was very understanding, he listened to me he didn’t rush me through the appointment and he explained everything to me as well as show me on the computer and explained what everything meant. I felt at ease and happy with the outcome. Only saw Mr Child’s a few days ago and already got the appointment that he said he was referring me to.

Dr Childs was absolutely fantastic. Only thing I could even say was I wish I'd been seen sooner! But that's no fault of his own. My knee feels absolutely solid after a heavy surgery and I hope to just get keep getting better. Really appreciate him.

Mr Childs first assessed me at the Beaumont Hospital in Bolton as an NHS patient when he identified I would need to have a hip replacement. He took on board my wish to have the treatment at Bolton Hospital rather than the Beaumont Hospital due to a terrible experience I had there over 10 years ago and advised it was my choice where I would be treated. I instantly felt I was going to be treated by a caring and understanding Consultant, which continued throughout the appointments leading up to my treatment. Before the surgery, Mr Childs made me feel at ease and explained the procedure thoroughly. I had the procedure just over a week ago so I am still in pain from the surgery which I am aware is normal but I have an app on my phone, 'My Recovery' to monitor post-op pain, exercises etc that was sent to me months before admission to hospital.

I was in really bad shape with my knees. I had been told by many people that due to my weight I wouldn't be able to have my knee replacement done. However when I was finally seen by Mr Childs, he was the first one to tell me my weight wouldn't change what he was going to do. When my operation was done, he said it was needed and I've just had my follow up appointment. I am now walking up straight and doing better than I have in a long time. It's amazing. I want to thank Mr Childs for everything he has done for me and he has put me on the waiting list for my other knee aswell.

Listened to what I had discussed with him for both my knees and getting me booked in as soon as I can for the surgeries that has been needed. Very thorough and very attentive and knowledgeable about what is needed/required.

I felt totally lucky when I met Mr. James Child’s who performed on me a total replacement knee procedure. He is extremely knowledgeable and very professional in his approach. There was no pressure put on me and he explained the procedure in full as well as what aftercare I would receive and what complications could arise and how I might feel after the surgery. His people skills were superb and he made me feel at ease from the very offset. The operation went extremely well and after every check up that I attended at hospital a follow up letter was sent shortly afterwards which reiterated what was said at the appointment and acted as a reminder for me incase I had forgotten anything.I can’t praise this surgeon enough and would highly recommend him and I thank him for all his care and attention.

Mr Childs was a very professional Doctor who is listened and explained the procedure and all the pros and cons with the hip replacement I have had done under him. I was told all the recovery times and given all details of the surgery I would be given. I was looked after fantastically well by Mr Childs and the entire team of ward staff and theatre team and physio department. I will be needing to have my left hip replaced shortly and will hope that I will have this done by Mr Childs and his team at the Beaumont Hospital. Thanks again.
