Mr. Bourne genuinely made me feel at ease from my first meeting with him after I broke my femur in 2 places. Myself and my son have been coming to the appointments since then and he has always made us both feel very welcome and able to ask any questions. We have never felt rushed and he has always answered all of our questions. This accident was a big blow for me as I have always been a very physical person both at home and in the gym, Mr Bourne knew this accident was a big setback for me but he made me feel that I would always get back to where I was before. On my last meeting it was shown that my bigger break at the top of my femur was starting to heal. On my previous appointment he was honest and advised it may be likely to fit a plate to straighten the top break. He was openly upset about this and you could see he had a real passion for his work. Me and my son asked for advice on what we could do to try to help the bone heal. On the advice of Mr Bourne I had vitamin D supplements and ate mackeral and salmon weekly aswell as well as a holiday to India for 2 weeks to help the bone heal with the sun. Thankfully on this last meeting in April the break has shown its healing and Mr Bourne was just as pleased as me. Its this genuine care for his patients that I feel I have to share here. Many others could learn great things from the way in which Mr Bourne interacts with his patients. I can see that this great attitude also filters down to the staff around him as they all seem to be happy and enjoy the working environment around Mr Bourne. To give greater care all I could suggest is possibly allowing longer times with the consultants but I suppose this is something that is far out of anyone's reach in regards to budgets etc. As on every appointment I can see that the surgeries are busy constantly but this is the face of an underfunded NHS. I was never made to feel rushed but I was always aware that there were many people waiting to be seen so me and my son were conscious that the consultants time with us was always limited. Hours before I went into surgery the day after my accident my son asked if he could speak with the surgeon. Shortly after that Mr Bourne came to see me and my son which he did not have to do and we did not expect him to. But its this type of attitude from Mr Bourne and his general positive attitude that makes him a real asset to that of the NHS. Thank you Mr Bourne not just for the great care but for also making me feel like a person not just a patient that you have to attend to.
