Our 13 year old son, an elite footballer, suffered a major knee injury in summer 2019. We took him to our local A&E Department who misdiagnosed his condition. We had an initial consultation Mr James Young and following an MRI scan Mr Young was immediately able to correctly diagnose that he had a ruptured ACL and torn meniscus. Mr Young took time to carefully explain the procedure he would need to undertake to repair the damaged knee and showed great empathy towards our son who was devastated to hear this news as he is a passionate about sport, especially football and rugby. The surgery was booked for September 2019 at the Nuffield Hospital Tunbridge Wells and the care our son received at the hospital was outstanding. Mr Young performed an ACL replacement and repaired the meniscus as much as possible. From the initial consultations to the surgery and following aftercare, our son received exemplary care from Mr Young. It is now 9 months since the initial surgery and it is a joy to see our son back to high level, rigorous training and with a plan to resume elite level sport as soon as he has completed his rehabilitation programme and lockdown has been lifted! Without hesitation we would recommend Mr James Young – he is not only a talented surgeon but also shows genuine care and concern for patients as individuals. We would also like to add that the help and care we have received from Mr Young’s PA, Tess McClelland, has been just brilliant. Tess is so incredibly efficient but also showed great compassion, care and patience on the many occasions we spoke or emailed to make the necessary arrangements for our son. Thank you both for enabling our son to get back to doing the sports he loves so much!
