I had Grave’s disease for eight years before the endocrinologist recommended thyroidectomy which is when I was referred to Mr Christakis at Nottingham City hospital. The procedure and associated risks were clearly explained to me by Mr Christakis and my queries were all adequately addressed, so I decided to proceed with the surgery (as a private patient at the BMI Park Hospital). Despite being informed that surgery to remove the thyroid gland had been quite challenging I needed just one night at the Park Hospital and was admitted/discharged within a period of 24 hours. I am left with a small scar which is fading & I expect will become inconspicuous over time (surgery was only a couple of months ago). Really pleased I had the surgery and hope that I can start to lose the weight gained after years of treatment with carbimazole once my thyroxine dose is optimised. Would highly recommend Mr Christakis to anyone going down the same route as me.

My initial consultation with Mr. Christakis was at Nottingham City Hospital. Having been diagnosed with hyperparathyroidism. Mr. Christakis carefully explained, with accompanying realtime drawings, the procedure required to cure my condition. He also answered my many questions in a considered and balanced way. Due to the NHS COVID-19 backlog with protracted wait times, l decided to go down the private self funded route and arrangements were made for my procedure to be undertaken at BMI The Park Hospital. A surgeon confident in his ability to fix my issue, did exactly what he said he would do. Despite the impact of a general anaesthetic, l knew the result of my procedure was positive in the way that I felt shortly after waking from surgery. This was confirmed by blood tests, a final consultation and being discharged within a week. I cannot thank Mr Christakis enough, not only for curing me of this condition (a life changing improvement to my quality of life) but also for his time and consideration, to both me and my wife, giving us confidence in the outcome and his ability to perform the procedure, appreciating that there is always risk associated with any surgery. An outstanding level of ‘duty of care’ shown.
