Mr Imran Liaquat is an impressively educated individual who I found easy to speak to, understanding and genuine. In our initial consultation he explained what the problem was and offered different options on how to rectify the problem. At no time did I feel baffled with terminology or under pressure to go ahead with the surgery and although he is a very busy man, I was able to contact him with any questions that occurred prior to the surgery, also receiving speedy and detailed answers. As for the operation, it was organised quickly and carried out successfully relieving the sciatic nerve symptoms which had been causing me such bother.

Mr. Liaquat is a down to earth Doctor who is an excellent communicator who filled me with great confidence. I never felt rushed and had all my questions very satisfactorily answered. I hear from friends of arrogant consultants that are aloof with patients and fellow medical support staff in hospitals. Mr.Liaquat defies that stereotype with a warm embracing approach that made me feel very comfortable. The staff around him in my presence obviously liked and respected him. The operation appears to have been very successful and my understanding of the spine and the requirements for recovery are now very clear in my mind.

In 2007 I had an X-stop device fitted between L4/L5 to relieve really bad sciatica in both legs and back pain. The operation was carried out by another surgeon and it did clear my symptoms. Unfortunately the sciatica and bad back pain returned in 2015 and gradually worsened. After an MRI scan and a consultation with Mr Liaquat, he recommended the removal of the X-stop followed by a Laminectomy. He was very re-assuring and with the use of a model spine he explained fully what the operation would entail and the pros and cons. During the operation he discovered that fibrous tissue had covered/grown around the X-stop device making the operation a bit more awkward than expected. Showing his experience and skill Mr Liaquat removed the device and then completed the Laminectomy. Following the operation my sciatica had gone and I could lay on my back for more than 30 min where as before I had to roll onto my side after 5 mins to relieve back pain. Mr Liaquat was supportive from the very beginning explaining every step of the procedure and recovery. He has been responsive and a calming influence to any worry/query I had pre/post op. I would highly recommend Mr Liaquat.

Mr Liaquat has been excellent from day 1. I was referred due to disc bulge. His knowledge and expertise was excellent from the start as he was able to explain all issues I was having which gave me reassurance that I would get better. He was supportive and showed genuine concern when my health was not great which included a phone call when I had a bad episode of sciatica. Mr Liaquat tried everything to resolve without the need of surgery due to risks which again showed his true concern for my situation. I did require surgery in the end and again Mr Liaquat was excellent explaining procedure and all possible outcomes. His honesty on 'what could go wrong' was in way not great to hear but gave me the drive to follow all advice to the letter. After surgery it was all explained and I was given regular visits checking on my welfare which was excellent considering this was not his hospital. Overall a fantastic Neurosurgeon with genuine concern for patients
