I had a failed orthopaedic operation at Forth Valley a few years ago (intramedulary nail from knee to ankle needed to be removed to enable a knee replacement to take place) - I will not name the Consultant or his assistant who seemed to find they whole situation hilarious. I had no follow-up at all, no explanation about what went wrong, no aftercare other than from our wonderful District Nurses in Killin and I was left in a huge amount of pain even worse than before with nothing to help me other than pain killers. I was basically written-off and became totally incapacitated. Thereafter, I totally lost confidence in the professionalism on offer from Forth Valley Hospital and opted to receive treatment at Glasgow Royal Infirmary where they managed to remove the nail. I also had a successful total ankle replacement done there also. I was extremely reluctant to go to Forth Valley Hospital for a knee replacement, but as I had already been waiting for one for over 10 years, and waiting lists being so extremely long at Glasgow, it was in desperation that I opted to make an appointment with Mr Mahmood at Forth Valley Hospital to see if he could help me. Mr Mahmood was excellent, he listened to my concerns and put me totally at ease. I had confidence that the knee replacement he was going to give me would be successful - and it was. My experience of Forth Valley Hospital under the care of Mr Ihsan Mahmood was a totally different one compared with what I had experienced before. Everything from nursing care, anaesthesia, physio, tea person, admin, cleaners, after care and follow ups were exemplary. I have had numerous orthopaedic operations over the years so I feel experienced enough that I can make comment, and I can highly recommend Mr Mahmood. Excellent Consultant. It is now nearly three months since my knee replacement operation and I am sooooo much more mobile than before. The pain for the past 10 years+ of every step being grating bone-on-bone has gone. I can't thank Mr Mahmood enough for all his professional expertise and care.

We were apprehensive to see Dr Mahmood as he had been allocated to my care following the original surgeon retiring I am delighted to report the following:- On attending outpatient clinic Dr Mahmood made both me and my wife extremely comfortable We were made to feel confident asking questions and he took time to explain and reassure re the treatment and operation that was being planned Following the operation he attended me twice to check I was comfortable and to explain what had occurred and the outcome He was happy to repeat the information to my wife when she visited and confirmed the aftercare we would receive He was always polite and unrushed and we both felt confident and reassured that he had our best interests at heart We have no hesitation in recommending Dr Mahmood

This surgeon came in to cover for an ill colleague so that mu op could take place. I will be eternally grateful for this kindness and professionalism. My op was on July 3 for a total knee replacement. Beforehand Mr Mahmoud spoke reassuringly and informatively to me. I had an epidural and light sedation so I was aware of the procedure but in no pain or discomfort at all. This anaesthetic meant that I had no aftereffects which, at the age of 78, was good. Mr. Mahmoud closed the would with 2 layers of dissolvable stitches, no removable stitches or clips. I think that this has aided my ability to do my exercises and so improve my mobility so well. For several days I have only used 1 stick in the house and am walking well outdoors.

I had a total knee replacement on Thursday 3rd July, my surgeon had a sore wrist and couldn’t do my operation so he introduced Mr. Mahmood and asked would I be happy for him to do my knee replacement, I said I was happy with that. I found out later that Mr. Mahmood had come in on his day off to do my surgery, when I spoke to him the following day to thank him he said he didn’t want to leave me any longer in pain which I was very grateful for. He is an excellent surgeon and I’m now recovering well.
