Mr Shackleford performed major spinal surgery on me back in 2013, he was one of the most attentive, kind, compassionate, caring consultants that I have ever seen. I trusted him 100%. He informed every step of the way of what he was going to do. I was naturally scared about the operation, but he reassured me and told me that I would be ok, and I was. I can only say if you need to have any orthopaedic surgery done then Mr Shackleford is the man to do it. He’s an absolute genius at whet he does.

I found Ian to be a very pragmatic consultant that listened to my history and underlying condition with understanding and professionalism. Rather than recommending operating in the first instance he decided on a staged approach with my full agreement throughout the process before coming to a decision on the options. I ended up having a L4/5 decompression and HPS2 Stabilization performed by Ian late June. Whilst this operation was clearly worrisome to me, both Ian and his team (in particular his anaesthetist- Dr Peter Barrett) continually checked to ensure my full understanding of the procedure (plus the associated risks). I would not hesitate in recommending Ian in terms of both his consultancy and the ethical manner in which he discussed solutions to my back problems and then presented solutions. No pressure, relevant time taken to allow patients to digest the information and come to an informed decision.

Total trust in Mr. Shackleford, takes the time to listen, speaks to you at totally the right level. Always looking for the least intrusive treatment and explains in detail how and why. He has a distinct way of putting you at ease, never shy of a funny story, but it’s apparent he just wants you to be well and he takes great pride in getting you there.

I have been under the care of Mr Shackleford since 2015 and recently had major spinal surgery carried out by him and I would say that he is one of, if not the best spinal surgeons. I trust him implicitly to the point were I would not let anyone else touch my spine. His bedside manner is fantastic, his caring nature, he is such a genuine person who will do whatever he can for his patients, certainly putting them first! I certainly would recommend him to anyone with a problem with their spine. He really is the best.
