I was first referred to Dr Maxwell through the NHS in July 2018 after years of trying to be seen by an expert, rather than being told to 'grin and bear it' and wear orthotic insoles, despite me being just 35. I had hereditary bunions that blighted my life and caused me a lot of pain since teenagehood. I could no longer easily find and fit into shoes and was in a lot of pain regularly. Dr Maxwell confirmed they needed to be operated on and that this would improve my situation greatly. He performed a double scarf osteotomy in January 2019 (I requested a delay so I could give my work ample notice). With a healthy diet and following all advice, I barely needed medication afterwards and I recovered very quickly. The casts and bandages were removed and I didn't need crutches after five weeks. I wish the NHS would refer people who have bunions as severely as I had to surgeons immediately. Right now, they put them through years of scrutiny and on long waiting lists to see chiropodists, which is not effective whatsoever for large/well-established bunions. Dr Maxwell was the voice of reason I'd been waiting for for many years. The operations he and his team performed have truly changed my life for the better. Thank you!
