Mr Harun Thomas

If you are faced with a Breast Cancer diagnosis and are looking for answers, I cannot recommend Mr Harun Thomas enough. After months of chaos trying to get a firm diagnosis of what was happening in my body I was told that I could choose my surgeon and where to have treatment. After much research I drew up a short list and Mr Thomas was the first on the list. I cannot begin to describe the sheer relief I felt on meeting him. He patiently listened to me and the struggles that my husband and I had experienced. We felt seen and felt heard. That is so important when given a Breast Cancer diagnosis. We finally felt safe. We have had many appointments with Mr Thomas. He has explained everything calmly, professionally and made us feel that no question we asked was foolish. He gave us numerous options on how to proceed so we felt that we had complete control. This is an extremely important factor when being told you have Cancer. He enabled us to take back control. I am currently 4 weeks post surgery. Together with his team of fantastic Breast Cancer Nurses, he has been with us every step of the way. He visited me once I woke from the surgery to explain how the surgery had gone and ensured that I was happy. He continued to monitor my progress throughout the following weeks discussing my progress, results and any concerns we had. My recovery has been phenomenal. He had fully informed us of what was to be expected post-surgery but I am delighted that my recovery has been so rapid. Furthermore, every medical practitioner I have seen post surgery has been shocked at my rate of recovery and asked “who did your surgery” I think that says it all. If you research Mr Harun Thomas you will see that he is a highly qualified and experienced surgeon. That aside, I can attest that Mr Thomas is also a warm, kind, sincere man and I am grateful to have placed my life in his hands.

Mr Thomas explained every aspect of my diagnosis and treatment journey. He is a very talented surgeon who wants a clearly an expert in his field. Thoroughly recommended.

I first see Mr Thomas at Southend Hospital, following a diagnosis of the BRCA2 cancer gene mutation, back in January 2021 At that time I was referred to Broomfields as the suggested pathway for me was bilateral preventative mastectomy with DIEP reconstruction. Fast forward to July 2023 after more than 2 years of worry, frustration, targets being moved and reconstruction options limiting my choices. I decided to go back to Mr Thomas, as my Onco breast surgeon. I made an appointment at the Wellesley. We spoke extensively about my journey and the changes to my options along the way. I had made a decision that the most important part of this journey was for me the risk reducing Mastectomy, I also needed to be able to move forward without constant worry. Mr Thomas listened, and actually heard all that I had said went through all the positives and negatives, being completely transparent with all the risks, as well asking me what I wanted, and explaining that this would be our planned preference for surgery, however he also talked me through things that could potentially change whilst in theatre so that I understood. I completely trusted him as did my husband. As I was his patient at Southend, he see me the following week at Southend hospital . My surgery was planned and a date given for September 2023. I had my bilateral mastectomy with immediate implant reconstruction on the 12/9/23 as a day surgery patient. Mr Syed assisted Mr Thomas. On the day of my surgery both Mr Thomas and Mr Syed asked me to explain in my own words what I was expecting from this surgery, in my mind this was to clarify and reassure me that we was all on the same page. My surgery went completely to plan. I was home same day, with 2 drains. I returned 3 days later drains were removed. Pain has been managed completely. I have been fortunate that so far my body has accepted the change and there has been no complications.I am seeing Mr Thomas regularly. He reassures me, answers all my questions and always gives me instruction on how to see him sooner if I have any problems. My care, by Mr Thomas has been exceptional both pre-surgery and post, and I feel extremely lucky that he did my surgery. I trust him completely and would recommend Mr Thomas to anyone in my position without hesitation.I have thanked Mr Thomas for giving me my life back personally, and would like to reiterate this sentiment, from my family and I , Thank you !

Recently diagnosed with Stage 1 Breast Cancer which when anyone is told that is life changing, Mr Thomas took time to explain my options, prognosis and treatments available clearly, honestly and factually. He was very reassuring and positive. He answered all my questions and addressed any fears I had without making me feel foolish, Mr Thomas has a great understanding and wealth of knowledge about this subject which gave me the confidence to trust him completely on all stages of my treatment. He was always available to answer any questions and concerns following on from the surgeries or the appointments I had or anything else that maybe causing me to worry. I could not have wished for a better person to help me through my diagnosis, surgery and treatment plan.

Mr Thomas has a kind, gentle bedside manner. He takes pride in his work and genuinely wants the best outcome for you. He personally avails himself to you for all follow up appointments ensuring the healing process is progressing well and takes prompt action is a problem arises.

Mr Thomas was very reassuring from my first appointment through to my follow up post-surgery. Along the way he was informative, explaining things step by step and answering any questions I had. He was calm and showed empathy, and in my experience, his optimistic approach gave me confidence knowing I was in safe hands.

Mr Harun Thomas performed for me two surgical procedures, one was last year and the second was this year. Last year’s operation involved a left breast mastectomy and axillary clearance and this year I had the right breast mastectomy. Both procedures were extremely successful, hassle free, and with minimal discomfort. The scars were beautifully healed and thanks to the meticulous eye to detail of the surgeon both scars look very neat, tidy and very aesthetic. After surgery, I healed very well and I am over the moon with Mr Thomas’ performance, as there is no better surgeon in the world I could leave my body with. I do not wonder why ladies call him the god of mastectomy. Moreover, Mr Thomas is extremely patient, extremely polite and kind, always willing to answer any questions or clarify any doubts no matter what time of the day and night. He is extremely approachable and always happy to help you on your journey. He even answered my emails in the late evening to ensure I have peace of mind. The day after surgery he was first visiting me in the Morning checking on how I am. I could not wish for a better surgeon. Mr Thomas has been a great support during my treatment. He has a gentle manner whilst delivering a diagnosis and discussing next steps, but is honest and clear at the same time. I am extremely happy with the look of the surgery that Mr Thomas has carried out.

I can not express enough how fantastic Mr Thomas is. He explained everything he was going to do and gave me plenty of time to ask questions.
