I went to see Greg O'Toole in 2016 after I'd been left with no right ear as a result of a savage, unprovoked attack the previous year. He was positive and encouraging about what he could do to try to improve both my appearance and my low self esteem, due to the concerns I'd had about what I looked like with just one ear. He explained calmly and clearly what the procedure entailed, the risks involved etc. But reassured me he'd done many similar reconstructions and I was in safe hands. After a 10 hour operation to reconstruct a new right ear from my chest cartilege and skin grafts from my thigh and head, Greg saw me every week then every two weeks until the surgery had healed sufficient for the appointments to reduce to once every 2 months. 12 months later I had the second operation to enhance the reconstruction further. Again, I had great support from Greg and his team. He even arranged for me to receive some counselling as he recognised the effects of the attack were deep routed. It's been 4 years since my first op but I know if I need to contact Greg about any worries or concerns regarding my reconstruction he is still there to support me. I cannot speak highly enough of the man, his skills and his determination to do the very best for all of his patients no matter what the surgical or mental challenge is. He gave me my life back and courage to face people rather than hide away because of a disfigurement which had happened to me through the actions of another human being. Thanks Greg! Keep up the excellent work! Ray Boyce - Coventry.
