In late August my husband Harry was diagnosed with bowel cancer, once we had absorbed the shock of this news we went on to see a colorectal surgeon. We were so distressed at this appointment we sought a second opinion. We looked to Dr John Painter Consultant Gastroenterologist, Cancer Support specialist nurse Susan Rodda and our own GP Dr Keith Birrell for advice. An appointment with Mr Graham O'Dair was obtained; he did also see a Consultant Anaesthetist. Mr O'Dair was amazing he came into the room pulled his chair alongside Harry and explained in detail all that was involved ('perhaps I should mention that as the result of a road traffic accident 21 years ago he suffered a stroke') Harry was able to decide that surgery with Mr O'Dair was the correct route for him. Days later he was operated on and was able to return home three days after surgery. Mr O'Dair visited Harry on the ward several times and kept me up to date with his ongoing progress, the care, courtesy and respect from everyone mentioned above has been remarkable and of the highest standard. Harry continues to make excellent progress his cancer was caught at stage one, he does not require further treatment and will continue with three monthly visits to Mr O'Dair. Words cannot express our gratitude for this kind, caring and skilled man 'our hero' Mr Graham O'Dair.
