It was deeply unfortunate that I was allocated Mr Cunnick as my consultant when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. He lacks basic interpersonal skills, speaks at rather than with patients, and shows little ability or willingness to consider other health conditions that must be managed alongside cancer treatment. His manner appears to create an atmosphere of fear among his staff, which seems to inhibit them from working confidently and effectively. Being diagnosed with cancer is distressing enough, but having him as my consultant made the experience significantly more stressful. I acknowledge that he is a highly skilled surgeon and that he may well be a good person outside of work, but his behaviour toward both patients and colleagues is widely recognised as problematic. It is disappointing that this has not been addressed, as it undermines the quality of care patients receive.

Waitress to see this Dr on the NHS. Was 20mins late for first appointment of the day. We had to leave due to both of us having chronic illnesses. We received a letter from the trust that he wrote referring to my wife as “This Lady”. The contempt of some consultants is astonishing

Treated me as an individual respecting my individual circumstances and guiding me in making decision. I have absolute confidence not only in his surgical skills but also the the academic knowledge in his speciality.

After a routine mammogram, 3 small tumors were detected which led to a mastectomy of the right breast. Mr Cunnick was my surgeon & consultant, who had a direct & straight talking approach which was brilliant! Very matter of fact but also listened & answered any concerns which were very reassuring. I cannot express enough thanks to Mr Cunnick & his team at Wycombe Hospital enough for their care & support through the whole process. Special thanks to the wonderful MacMillan nurses, especially Carol & Zoe.... yes guys I made my trip to Spain! If anyone is unfortunate to be diagnosed, then please be re-assured you are in safe & caring hands.

Mr Cunnick preformed my mastectomy 2 years ago...he was just the right sort of surgeon I needed, he was direct and had a certain arrogance which gave me confidence. He made no apologies for doing the mastectomy, because if that’s what it takes for me to beat this horrible disease, then that’s what he will do. I remember him saying we’re looking at curing you, not just treating you. I fed off that confidence at a very stressful time, and I always walked out feeling more positive about my future. I’ve not seen him since as others have done my follow up, but I will always be grateful to him.

I have been Mr. Cunnick's patient for several months, from a very complicated bi-lateral breast cancer diagnosis, to post chemotherapy and post surgery care. I find him to be a kind and thoughtful person who answers all questions in a considered and straight forward manner. My surgery incisions and scars are very neat with no bulging "dog ear" skin flaps. 2 weeks post surgery the incisions are healing well with minimal discomfort and with full range of movement in my shoulders and arms. I am most grateful to Mr. Cunnick, Nurse Christina and all of his specialist Breast Care Team for their incredible attention to detail, their persistence in investigating every annomaly and most of all for their unfailing humanity. I feel privileged to have had Mr. Cunnick as my Consultant and surgeon. He and his Team are world class professionals and we are privileged to have them here in Buckinghamshire.

I had breast cancer 3 years ago. Mr Cunnick was and still is amazing. He is very straight forward which I found reassuring. I trust him completely. It’s so confusing and difficult when you are diagnosed. I found it comforting to have someone straight, honest and direct advising and caring for you. I wish the rest of my care team were as honest and direct.

I seen this Consultant Surgeon for breast cancer . He was very kind and very knowledgeable which made it easier to make my choice , I would happily recommend him he is amazing and I’m glad he was my surgeon. He listened to everything I said and answered all my questions , I’m really pleased with the outcome from surgery I can hardly notice the scars, I couldn’t have asked for better care.

I was diagnosed back in 2011 and thankfully am alive and well today. Giles Cunnick was my consultant surgeon and I genuinely came to love him. His approach is very direct which I loved but some may find off putting, and his dedication and compassion is truly second to none. I think it’s important to remember the pressure that a busy breast surgeon is under and what an incredibly valuable job is being done. He is literally saving lives on a day to day basis. And must also have to deal with a lot of pain and suffering too. I definitely award him 5 stars; he is amaaaazing

I saw this consultant for breast cancer. Quiet, pleasant, knowledgeable, bit silly. Surgical skills excellent, tidy incisions. Surgery not painful but would like to have been told I would lose my nipple. On balance, survival was more important. Think there is a domineering arrogant side as he eyeballed some staff with disdain. Had two consultations, at the first he had light brown hair and the second, dark brown hair. I found this confusing and had to double check it was the same surgeon. On both occasions, I needed an examination and began undressing behind a curtain nurse was present. On both occasions, he entered shortly after I began undressing and told me to continue. I'm not a prude or prissy and am not slow to undress but this was unacceptable. I've been examined by doctors before but this has never happened, was it at lack courtesy? arrogance? aversion to curtains? I was willing to ignore the first instance but twice? He gave me the creeps and still does. A friend was also examined by him, she said there was nobody else present. He did try to find someone and she did give her consent - but she did not think it proper. Just glad I don't have to go back.
