Dr Mc Gowan is an amazing surgeon over the past few years he has endlessly given his time patience and most of all determination in not giving up on difficult operations to give me some sight back in my eyes . Visited today for 6 monthly check up eyes looking great , thanks to this tremendous surgeon ,i am able to do things like going out for a meal without dropping cutlery and feeling embarrassed but mostly being able to see my grandchildren.

After attending a hospital for 9 After years with a serious eye condition and with no improvement. I was finally seen by Mr Gerard McGowan who said straightaway I would need an operation. Within four days of his busy schedule an appointment was made with Mr McGowan to have the operation. After one month during a follow up appointment my sight was regained. Since then I have had a cataract removed by him from the same eye making my vision even better with no complications. I want Mr McGowan, his team including Geraldine his secretary and everyone to know how he saved my sight and changed my life. I highly recommend Dr McGowan. He is a fantastic surgeon. Always listened to what you had to say, explained everything so clearly. He had a lovely caring manner, and it was no problem asking him any questions that I had. I honestly do not think he could improve on anything regarding the care of the individual. If I have any other problem with the non operated eye, I would not hesitate to go back to him, and I would recommend anyone to go to him, you will be in a safe pair of hands

I had a double vitrectomy and fix of a torn retina during January and February. Before the surgery my vision had been deteriorating. I was losing confidence and my life was impacted greatly - both work and private/social. I was extremely anxious about the surgery. Mr McGowan was confident and positive about the success of the procedure and was professional at all times. My eyesight has been transformed and I can start to get my life back to what it was. Dr McGowan is totally superb. I suddenly developed a Macular Hole and I saw Dr McGowan at the Ross Hall Clinic Out Patients. Several tests were completed immediately, and he examined me. I was admitted 4 days later, operated on and discharged all within 8 days of first contact with the clinic. He was very helpful, professional, explained the pathology and the treatment procedure, and was extremely kind and thoughtful. I was seen again at Out Patients post operatively within a couple of weeks, and again at 11 weeks. I have fully recovered my sight. I cannot thank him and the team enough for the expert help and support from start to finish. The anaesthetist and the theatre team were also excellent.

Delighted with the surgery carried out by Gerard McGowan. I had surgery in my left eye follow a retinal hemorrhage, prior to the bleed I always had big floaters and following the surgery my eyesight is perfectly clear. Gerard McGowan is a tremendous surgeon, he has a very calm and pleasant manner, clearly explains everything and put you at ease. I would highly recommend him for any eye treatment and surgeries

My 88 year old nearly blind mother attended Ross Hall for an assessment with consultant Gerard McGowan, my mother was extremely nervous and sceptical with the cataract procedure as she was aware that the cataract was dense and complex. Gerard Mc Gowan was patient explaining everything in simple terms which made my mother feel relaxed and gave her the confidence to proceed with the surgery. This decision was the best my mother has ever made, Gerard McGowan is a genius and highly recommend anyone thinking of undergoing cataract treatment. Procedure 9.30am Friday 23 December 2022 and by 6pm Friday night our mother was telling us the time on the clock. I am blind in one eye and had a cataract in the other for a couple of years. My optician was correctly loathe for me to have the cataract removed until absolutely necessary. That moment came recently because my vision was completely blurred, impacting severely on my life. I was sent to Dr McGowan. He put me at ease as soon as I met him and took me into the operating theatre one week later with full confidence the operation would be successful. The operation took 20 minutes and was pain free. I could see clearly immediately but wore a protective cover at first. By the following day I had perfect sight in that eye. I’ve had no complications whatsoever. I can’t thank Dr McGowan enough. Ross Hall, Braehead is a nice hospital. The staff were all very pleasant. Would recommend highly.

It is an impressive online profile and he is lively and engaging in person. Clear and thorough explanation of all aspects of the procedures (cataracts in both eyes, retinal tear and detachment in one eye). A paragon of effective efficiency coupled with a warmth and friendliness on each occasion in theatre. Outcome is even better than I could have imagined and I would be happy to recommend him to anyone considering such procedures.

From the outset my treatment by Dr McGowan has been absolutely amazing. Everything about my treatment was explained perfectly. The two procedures were carried out two weeks apart and went without any hitches. I have to say this has,undoubtedly, been a life changing experience. The ancillary staff and the nursing associates at the hospital were kind, considerate and also very helpful either their explanations of all the tests I went through. I can’t fault anyone. I had my after surgery assessment today am I am delighted to have perfect vision. I simply can’t recommend Dr McGowan and the team at Ross Hall highly enough.
