I have been a Hip & Knee Orthopaedic Surgeon Consultant at Salford Royal Hospital since 2010. I perform Hip and Knee Replacement, Revision Hip and Knee Replacement, Arthroscopic (keyhole) Hip and Knee Surgery, including ACL reconstruction. I treat people with sports injuries. I am one of few Orthopaedic Consultants in the region who has also completed their Sports Medicine Membership exams (MFSEM) with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. This gives me an unique insight into sporting injuries, training methods sports psychology as well as nutrition. I am a keen runner and still run in the Vets Category for Sale Harriers with a marathon PB of just over 3 hours. I have played a number of different sports at a good level including badminton and squash for my University. I am happy to see patients who have sporting ambitions at any level and are struggling to get back to their sport. You will get honest advice about what can and cannot be done. I understand how important it is for you to be able to continue to do the sport that you love so much and I will do my best to help you achieve this. I qualified in 1995 from University of Wales College of Medicine with Commendation. I did my basic Surgical Training (MRCS) in Manchester in 1998. I spent three years at the Manchester Medical School conducting research into how cells behave when human bone heals after it has broken, for which I was awarded my PhD. I started higher surgical training in 2003 and passed my FRCS (Orth) exam in 2007. During my training, I did the Bolton Knee Fellowship, Leicester Hip Fellowship and visited the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota to complete a Visiting Clinician’s Fellowship. I completed my MFSEM with The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2018. Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile.
Cannot fault Mr Batra, he was incredibly supportive, professional, caring and I felt that I received a real personal service. The consultancy appointments were efficient and my survey was effective. I cannot thank Mr Batra enough for the care he gave, it was and is greatly appreciated Best Regards Haley
I had a hip replacement in May this year at Trafford General and I have been very happy with the care and attention I have received from Mr Bates, his team and the physio assistant. The main help comes from listening to the advice and acting on it. I have great faith in any future possible health related operation I may need.
MR Batra is calm polite friendly helpful and I had full trust in him from the start. I will always be thankful to MR Batra and all the staff at Oaklands Hospital for all the care I received at the Hospital .
From start to finish, Mr Batra has been nothing but professional, respectful, supportive and insightful. In my case, I initially had an arthroscope to assess my knee. This was a joint decision to give myself the opportunity to do as much rehab and gain confidence in my knee again. Unfortunately after going back to sport I tore the remainder of my ACL and saw Mr Batra again to discuss my reconstruction. He was confident about helping and gave me belief that with hard work, I could get back to sport. For those going into an ACL reconstruction, you have to put in a lot of effort and devote yourself to the rehab (6-9 months). Mr Batra has always reinforced that he can do the best job in the world during surgery but if you don’t put in the effort after then it will not be worth it. The rehab programme I followed was built by Mr Batra, is highly detailed and enforced by the physiotherapists, outlining that everything has been thought of. I would highly recommend Mr Batra and have complete trust in his knowledge and ability to help.
I saw Mr Batra today to consent to my second knee replacement, I had my first replacement in March at Oakland's' Hospital, were I was treated with kindness and consideration by Mr Batra and all the staff at Oakland's who looked after me. I now feel ready to place myself once again in Mr Batra's capable hands. From my first consultation I have felt confident in his expertise, everything is fully explained, the good and the bad and I'm sure the outcome from my second operation will be every bit as good as the first.
