My ailment is at the low end of the scale of seriousness of the illness that he treats nevertheless I was given his complete attention. He listens carefully, is kind and thorough.

I'm very grateful that I had Mr Amen as my surgeon. His bedside manner is wonderful. I recently had half of my thyroid removed due to a nodule, which unfortunately was cancer. A few weeks later, Mr Amen operated on me for the second time to perform a total thyroidectomy. It's been a period of shock and worry, especially because I have three very young children I need to be healthy for. Mr Amen has been calming and reassuring but matter of fact at all times. I asked so many questions. Mr Amen always made sure he answered them. My scar looks exceptional seeing as it was cut open twice. It is incredibly neat, it'll look even better with time. I still have the iodine treatment to go, but I'm going into that next stage of treatment feeling optimistic and much calmer due to the great care I've received so far from Mr Amen and team. I highly recommend Mr Amen. Thank you.

Throughout my treatment Mr Amen has always been very professional and has discussed my condition and treatment in a way that is easy for me (a non medical professional) to understand. When I had to make a decision about the nature of my treatment Mr Amen explained the options, side effects and possible outcomes helping me to come to a decision that has ultimately proved to be the correct option. The surgery, also carried out by Mr Amen, was a success and I have been left with hardly any visible scar. Mr Amen is always approachable, patient (answers my “daft” questions”) and shows that he cares. An excellent professional in my opinion.

I was first referred to Mr. Amen a few years ago who treated me for ENT related issues. When I had a recurring issue recently the symptoms were similar. My GP surgery, like many, is difficult to communicate with. I self referred myself to Mr. Amen out of frustration and he saw me within a couple of weeks. After taking a few tests he diagnosed another, non ENT, condition and advised me to seek a referral to a consultant with a more appropriate specialisation. After a bit more frustration with my GP centre, but with Mr Amen’s letter of recommendation I was eventually referred to the more appropriate consultant. The outcome of that is, Mr. Amen’s initial diagnosis was confirmed and a way forward agreed. Mr. Amen’s initial contact and willingness to step outside of his particular specialism to be of assistance is very much appreciated.
