When EVERY other medical worker questioned why my sister was at A&E and should go home to wait for an appointment, Dr Banjo argued that she was unwell. For three hours, various specialists and senior staff dismissed his insistence, but he refused to send her home. He said time after time, something isn't right,I want more tests. He even stayed past his shift to ensure she was safe and cared for. He listened ,assessed and realised her symptoms were indicating something more serious. 2am in a cubicle, she became very unwell suddenly and she was placed on bed and moved to next unit to await cardiologist. When he arrived at 6am,straight from other surgery,he said that she was very ill and needed surgery as three arteries were blocked. Dr Banjo knew and was proven right. A hero for saving my sister's life. The surgeon said she needed immediate surgery when admitted to cardiac ward and had Dr Banjo not been working that night,I dread to think what may have happened. Thanks to him,she is two years post triple bypass. Lessons learnt would be to listen and hear. To realise that protocols don't always give the diagnosis, need to look beyond the protocol, to look at patient and assess holistically. As an retired nurse, she was not someone who sought medical advice on a whim ,she sought it as a professional who knew her body.
