Mr Drostan Cheetham tell you as it is, he makes you feel very relaxed, brilliant surgeon because he explains exactly want he’s going to be doing. If your relaxed with him you could have a bit of banter which real helped me. All his staff are very helpful including his Secretary & Nurses, especially Andrea who was my appointed nurse, nothing was to much trouble for them, but you expected that anyway, what l was going through and always at the end of the phone if l had a question. People moan about Watford & Hemel Hospitals but l can’t praise them enough for care over the last 5 years.
Today 5th June 2019 l’ve received the brilliant news from Mr Cheetham lam clear off cancer. Thank you so much & to all your staff.
I have not got any constructive suggestions to make because my care was second to none. The only thing l would said to people, don’t go on the internet, let your Consultant and Nurses explain everything to you. Because there are the best people in the world that know all about cancer, not the internet.

Mr. Cheetham made the whole process of ridding me of bowel cancer, seem simple and easy. His explanations were in ordinary language not jargon, with lashings of humanity and humour thrown in. He’s the sort of guy you can have a great craic with.
Mr. Cheetham made a brilliant job of my op. removing large quantities of bowel through tiny holes and stitched me up afterwards with the skill of a seamstress. He liaised with other specialists on my behalf with great success. I owe him a huge debt of gratitude for his talent, care and thoroughness.
After receiving the frightening news that I had bowel cancer I met the wonderful Mr Cheetham. His warm & reassuring manner gave me confidence that I was In safe hands. He outlined his proposals clearly with the aid of hand sketched diagrams. This pre-operation discussion made it easy for me to understand what I was about to go through during surgery. My situation was further complicated due to other medication (steroids) that I was taking for another ailment. However, Mr Cheetham assured me that whilst there may be some difficulties due to this medication, he would be able to overcome these issues to gain a successful outcome. There was a problem due to the steroids following surgery (whilst I was on the recuperation ward) but the hospital team were amazing, caring & resolved the situation. Mr Cheetham had gone on leave directly after my surgery but staff were able to contact him even though he was abroad. On his return he confirmed that he was fully aware of the situation at all times despite there being several hours time difference. I was able to leave the ward 8 days after surgery.
I’ve had a couple of follow up appointments with Mr Cheetham & it’s always a pleasure to see him. His wonderful sense of humour & positive demeanour is always most welcome. It makes a potentially difficult time a lot less worrying and stressful.
As far as I’m concerned he is not just a surgeon he is my ‘hero’!! I could not have had better treatment.
Thank you.
Mr. Cheetham inspired confidence in me to go for the operation by his honesty and humour. He and his staff attended to all my needs, before, during and after the operation. Especially the after-care has been just brilliant. I hope I never have to have another operation, if if I had to, I pray he is available to do what needs to be done.
Mr Cheetham operated on my bowel in 2017 and performed a colonoscopy to me 2018.
He is friendly, straight forward, and, in my opinion an excellent surgeon. By the way that the nurses interact with him and have speak about him, it is obvious that he is popular and well respected.
I have every faith in this man
