Mr Macarthur was the first person to FINALLY listen to me about my condition and about the symptoms I have been experiencing. For once, it was someone doing the explaining to me, not me doing the explaining to them. Mr Macarthur put me at complete ease and I was totally reassured by everything he was saying. He is a real credit to the NHS and the Queens Medical Centre.

im VERY surpised to be the first to review as he has been a godsend both to his patient (my son) and myself. he has been my sons consultant for about 3 and half years now , he took over my sons care when he was in for what ended up being raised ICP (and i was at my lowest through not being taken seriously by previous consultant, was on our third now who was nice and seemed to listen but was about to go on leave so thought be best to pass us onto donald rather than wait for her ,fair point and was best for my son so not complaining at all ) and he has been amazing since.. no question is to silly .he takes time to make sure i FULLY understand what he wants to do (or not do and why not if something on the cards is not in my sons best interest at that time) shows me scans and point out whats he seeing on them ,draws diagrams ,rephrases things , repeats things if hes losing me wich happens if i not expecting the outcome , what ever it takes to explain to me fully in a way i understand but not in a way that i feel spoken down to .i feel equal in decisions made about my sons care .he listens and i mean listens not just nods his head or dismisses my fears(like others) ! when my son was in for what turned put to be raised pressure he wasnt doing the 'text book' signs/symptoms but i knew something was wrong and he LISTENED he did not dismiss is as a mum flappping because he 'looks ok' . he took the time to find out what i was worried about and had the attitude mums not happy we missing someting and for the first time ever and my son was 8 by then i was taken seriously , they did a pressure check and next thing i know hes in theatre for a shunt because donald LISTENED to a carer and not her judged by the lack of text book indicators , i have always trusted his judgement just as he shown me that first day that he trusts mine when others did not .( i feel its important a parent and consultant trust each other for the child to get the best possible care) . he has referred my son to BCH for further surgery that cannot be done at QMC but he called me first and made sure i was happy for him to do it and explained why, he is still my sons consultant its simply this particular op cannot be done locally and we still see hin in clinic regular and i can call ella his secretary anytime (who has been brill as well as george and sam his registars they all been very supportive when ever i spoke to them ) he is my sons fourth consultant and i do truely hope he keeps my son on his books when we eventually move to adult services as its taken this long to find someone i trust
