From the moment we met Mr Thompson we were at ease and felt we were well informed with all our choices and decisions that we were about to make Being told that your son has to have brain surgery is a very frightening experience, but Mr Thompson re assured us all the way but also gave us the whole picture which is what we asked for as there are always risks involved with such surgery. He has now had the surgery and all we can say is how grateful we are for his amazing expertise and dedication that he gave us. He made us feel like we were his only patient and kept us and Scott up to date with all that was going on and told us in a way that we Fully understood. We cannot fault Mr Thompson in any way, a great asset to the Hospital Thank you

Dr. Thompson is one of the most experienced paediatric neurosurgeons in the UK and Europe and even before our first appointment we knew our lovely daughter was in the safest hands possible. Our daughter was diagnosed with a congenital dermal sinus tract in the lumbar area which reached the end of the spinal cord, conus medullaris. The operation involved the excision of the tract and of the haemangioma surrounding the dimple, and disconnecting the end of the tract from the spinal cord. Although this is very complex major surgery, in the hands of an experienced surgeon like Dr. Thompson, this is considered to be a relatively straightforward operation. For parents like us though it meant absolutely everything. When we met Dr. Thompson for the first time, we were impressed with his thorough examination of our daughter’s condition and his immense capacity to take in every detail given by us which he put down in a very precise report. The approximate period he recommended for the operation also proved ideal for our daughter in terms of her developmental stage. At our pre-operation assessment, he listened to all our concerns and gave clear answers to our questions. Thanks to the wonderful Great Ormond Street medical team and his very capable hands, our daughter’s operation was uneventful and went as planned. Dr. Thompson’s diagnosis was confirmed in every detail. Dr. Thompson also supervised our daughter’s recovery, which was excellent, as anticipated. Every day after the operation made a huge difference to the way she felt. In a matter of weeks she was her very happy, active and bubbly self again, 100% back to normal, which meant the world to us and much much more. We are thoroughly impressed with Dr Thompson’s professionalism and confidence when dealing with such conditions, and will always be grateful beyond words for the excellent care he has given to our daughter. For us he is in another league, that of the superhumans who perform such amazing miracles on a daily basis. Dr. Thompson, thank you for everything you did for our daughter. We wholeheartedly recommend you to everyone whose child is in a similar situation.

Mr Thompson performed Foramen magnum decompression surgery on our son Rico. From the start Mr Thompson was very kind mannered and always made sure we understood the diagnosis for which Rico required surgery, the reasons for his recommendation of surgery, exactly how the surgery would be carried out and what to expect post surgery. Of course with it being major surgery we were very anxious, but we did indeed feel reassured by Mr Thompson's experience. The surgery was successful and Rico is doing very well, thanks to Mr Thompson and his team. We would definitely recommend Mr Thompson for anyone requiring surgery.
