Review

It is now just over a year since I had bilateral arthroscopy for osteoarthritis leading to TMJ issues at Stage III. I was quite apprehensive but Mr Komath at no point throughout the entire experience was ever condescending or trivialised my questions. Instead he always patiently and clearly explained my current issues and potential paths to resolution, which included splint therapy, diagnostic scans and physio, before surgery. His PA Nicky was also magnificent in handling my comms throughout. My arthroscopy could not have been more straightforward. The Kings Oak Hospital was as comfortable as one would require and when I awoke from surgery, I was pain free. Since the arthroscopy, my jaw has not clicked in the pop and lock fashion as it did before, plus the deep aches within the TMJ area are gone. The pain I experienced before surgery still comes and goes, which I now realise is stress related and something I will have to manage long term. I had researched specialists carefully before deciding to be treated by Mr Komath and am glad I did so. The journey to reach my current point of healing has been worthwhile and I hope anyone reading will take confidence in him.

Worst delivery of a Cancer diagnosis I have ever heard from a doctor. Zero empathy, I took my 83 Year old mum in for her biopsy results and he was dismissive, overly direct and despite mentioning her cancer was caught in early stage did zero to reassure her that there could be a positive outcome.. Told her she had cancer, and that it was “Very bad news” twice! Neglected to answer my question on what the next steps were and instead said “there are many steps and she needs to see a lot of people” my poor mum was in bits when she left his office as he did nothing but stress how bad the news was and her recovery all depended on how fit she was. The only saving grace was the lovely nurse in the room that tried to reassure my mum clearly realising how diabolical his conduct was.

After many years of pain and problems opening my mouth I was referred to Mr Komath with a problem with my jaw joint . The care I was given by Mr Komath and his team was brilliant. Mr Komath was very caring, put me at ease and explained every aspect of what procedures might be needed. After having a serum (made from my blood) injected into my jaw joints Mr Komath discovered a giant cell tumour attached to one of my joints. After discussions with him, and due to the fact that both my jaw joints needed replacing, I underwent a TMJ replacement in June 2023 to remove the joint along with the tumour. All care given by Mr Komath from the moment I arrived at the hospital until I left was exemplary. My surgery was a total success. I decided to be put on the waiting list to have my other joint replaced. My surgery was in July 2024 and again there is no words to describe how grateful I am to Mr Komath and his team for the care I have been given. I have and would continue to recommend Mr Komath as I know first hand how caring and excellent his work is.

I saw Dr Komath in March 2024 for Bilateral Arthroscopy to my jaw as a result of Temporomandibular disorder. I have stage 4 osteoarthritis in both sides of my jaw. Pre-surgery, Dr Komath was excellent in my pre surgery check and walked me through the procedure, and as a result I have seen a massive improvement in my quality of life. Post surgery, Dr Komath has been brilliant at explaining what happened in surgery, the extent of my condition and referrals for physio and a TMD splint. Post surgery, I followed all the instructions, a soft diet and slowly introducing chewable foods in various levels after 3 weeks and at now 4 months post surgery I am back to a pretty much normal diet. The recovery was longer than I anticipated, but I had very minimal pain, it was more uncomfortable than painful, the scarring is minimal and the swelling went down after a few days. It's been a slow, but very much worthwhile recovery, after years of pain. The surgery has fixed the deviation of my jaw joint, inflammation was removed and I also had a PRP injection to help with post surgery swelling and to speed up healing time. I would absolutely recommend Dr Komath.

I saw Mr Komath following the growth of a large lipoma on the back of my head. He was incredibly attentive and understanding of the sensitivity of the issue and was fantastic with talking me through the required procedure. I had a surgery to remove the lipoma from my head. The Dr was great at keeping me calm. The surgery went smoothly, and the after care/post-surgery care was excellent from the Dr and his team. I would highly recommend.

I was referred by my GP to Mr Komath to treat my psoriatic arthritis on my Jaw joints. Scans and Arthroscopic investigations led to the joint replacement of the left side with an implant. The whole team was marvellous and kept me well informed of the progress through each stage. The operation healing time was expected for a 5 day stay but I was able to be out in 3 days. The benefit of having this operation in incalculable as the pain has now gone completely from this side of the jaw. Thank you.

I underwent TMJ arthroscopy surgery 2 years ago and have had the best care and aftercare from Mr Komath and his team. The results of the surgery have been amazing and I now have no pain or problems whatsoever. A lovely consultant who is very professional, caring, trustworthy and extremely good at his profession. Maxillofacial surgery at its very best! Nicky his PA is so helpful and was always so easily contactable and the physiotherapist Katy was just amazing. My whole experience has been an exceptionally positive one and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

I sought out Mr Komath after my jaw locked open and I had difficulty closing my mouth naturally. Difficulty eating and pain then followed and didn't subside. Mr Komath was highly recommended to me by an orthodontist and I am very thankful to her. Tests were rapidly organised by Mr Komath and a diagnosis made with a comprehensive treatment plan. I am now 6 months post surgery (bilateral level 2 arthroscopy and PRP injections for advanced arthritis) and have made a full recovery. The surgery itself was stress free and I felt fully informed at all steps of the procedure. I am now pain free and can eat all foods and fully mobilise my jaw. I am very pleased with my treatment and outcome and would not hesitate to recommend Mr Komath to others who are experiencing symptoms like myself.

I had been suffering for over 10 years with jaw pain, jaw locking & jaw instability which was getting progressively worse. I had tried all conservative treatments which did not help and felt this condition was having a big impact on my life. At my consultation with Mr Komath he immediately put me at ease. He explained my MRI and X-ray results and showed me the pictures of my condition. I had advanced arthritis of both jaw joints and I was recommended Level 2 arthroscopy and PRP injection in TMJ. The procedure was fully explained to me along with any potential side effects/risks. I was advised I should have physiotherapy and to wear a jaw splint. Nicky, Mr Komath’s Secretary who has always been so kind and helpful arranged these initial appointments for me. Following the procedure I had no pain, just some slight tenderness and tightness over the incision sites. I had some swelling which was eased with ice packs over the following 24 hours. The procedure had gone really well. I was given post op exercises to commence gently after a week and restarted physiotherapy shortly after. I have had a very good outcome and to date I am pain free. I am pleased I had this procedure done and I would highly recommend Mr Komath, he is such a skilled surgeon, professional and caring.
