I had a repair of an umbilical hernia and a Laparoscopic repair of an inguinal hernia.Mr Ratliff explained everything very clearly and made sure i understood what was going to happen. He visited me before the operation to make sure i was ok and was still ok with everything and asked if i had any further questions. After the operation Mr Ratliff reassured me everything had gone to plan and i recovered fully within the time frame i had been told. I would have no issues being seen by Mr Ratliff in the future or recommending him to friends or family.

Eight years ago I was admitted to Northampton General Hospital for a Thyroidectomy it turned out that I had cancer of the thyroid. All I could remember was hearing the word cancer. Mr Ratliff was very empathetic but he was also very authoritative, clearly outlining the procedure we were about to follow. When you have a shock like that you need to feel that someone is going to take charge and that you are in safe hands. I never doubted him and always felt that he was on the journey with me. Fortunately I now only have to attend an annual check up - its like meeting up with an old friend.

I had a laparoscopic repair of right inguinal hernia performed by Mr Ratliff. The recovery was short and straightforward - no more than some bruising. The level of care was exceptional, from pre-operative consultation, communication, the day of the operation through to final discharge. I was able to return to normal activity very soon, just being a little careful for the first one to two weeks. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Mr Ratliff. He is skilled, professional, pleasant and straightforward and to the point in communication. A master. John Norrie December 2019

What a truly wonderful consultant Mr Ratliff is! From the very first moment I met him he made me feel that he was interested in me and my case (epigastric hernia repair) - I was not just one of the many patients passing through his door. He explained everything in terms that were easy to understand and made me feel totally confident in the procedure. I felt totally at ease with him. He was also extremely accommodating with regards to the timing of my operation - a big plus in my book! On the day, Mr Ratliff came to see me prior to the operation and explained what was going to happen - again, I felt completely confident and not in the least bit nervous. He exudes a quiet, professional manner with a touch of humour which is incredibly reassuring. After the op, he again visited me and told me how smoothly everything had gone and gave simple, easy to understand post operative instructions. My final visit, a month later, was equally informative and reassuring. I cannot speak highly enough of my entire experience from start to finish. Mr Ratliff is a star!
