I had cataract surgery done recently and I am now back to full health. Dr Lockington genuinely cares about your wellbeing and recovery and is the complete professional. I cannot recommend him enough.

Mr David Lockington is clearly a world class eye surgeon! He came to my attention via my own optician with the highest recommendation. This proved to be highly fortunate for my part. I was able to arrange a consultation promptly, with surgery scheduled as soon as possible thereafter. The timing was most considerate, and also very welcome, as the cataract was continuing to progress very rapidly. I happened to have a very severe cataract which presented a particularly tricky matter to resolve, but I need not have worried .. and to then transition from complete loss of right eyesight to suddenly experiencing what I can only describe as ultra high definition vision far beyond what the average person will experience is quite astonishing! Of course, I was highly optimistic, given my choice of surgeon, but my expectations have already been greatly exceeded. I had to wear an eye pad and overlying shield taped firmly in place for the first 24 hrs, yet my vision was crystal clear upon removal (and during a few daring peeks through the side during those final few hours!). Before 30 hours, I already knew the eyesight in my operated eye was superior to my healthy left eye even with it's contact lens in situ! Day two and I can see clearly at all distances and even read a car registration plate at over 35 metres distance with my operated eye alone - amazing eyesight correction! David Lockington is very open, and honest about everything, with great communications through every step of the patient journey. What impressed me most though was his manner during the surgery, where his skillful running commentary and clear instruction really helped everything go as smoothly as possible in the important moments. The pace, comfort and efficiency of the surgery was absolutely remarkable too, given the greater work involved in my case. I write this review feeling wonderfully well and fortunate at not even 48 hours post-op. I'm aware I still have a period of recovery ahead with great care to be taken but I could not be more happy with the outcome at this stage and I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Dr Lockington and his team at Beaconsfield Road. I really look forward to liaising with my referring optician before my follow-up consultation with Mr Lockington in a few weeks time! Thank you for what you do.

The following is a copy of the letter I wrote to/about Mr David Lockington: This is a thank you letter.. and a recommendation. This is with reference to a lens extraction and corneal graft operation (the lens extraction as the first part of a corneal graft operation, the purpose being that a lens extraction (=cataract operation) afterwards might compromise the graft). You have no idea how grateful I am (to you... for giving me my life back). The more so as my cornea had decompensated, and, as I couldn't see out well, you couldn't see in well. It is also a small/short eye. Having worked as an ophthalmologist, I was way more aware of the difficulty of this operation than I would like to have been. I know it's 'science and stuff', but it feels like a miracle! (To clarify, I believe Medicine is also an art, and I in no way mean to detract from the surgical skill involved.) Thank you also for understanding that I wanted surgery on my other eye, before the difficult operation represented itself. You managed to do a lens extraction and lens implant in a small/short eye (I know because of the 28 diopter intraocular lens!), with posterior synechiae (edge of pupil i.e. iris stuck to the front of the lens in places from previous laser iridotomies), while protecting the cornea which is at risk. You said it was tricky, and I'm sure it was. The outcome of both operations could not have been better. Although I know facing medical procedures may be daunting, you could not have made it easier for me, such an easy straightforward manner. I could only highly recommend Dr (Mr) Lockington. P.S. Since I wrote this I have seen my optometrist (who is quite experienced), he also was very impressed, with the graft in particular.

I received excellent attention from Dr Lockington. This was my second cataract operation (the first at another hospital), so I knew what to expect. However Dr Lockington's superior expertise showed itself by taking one-third of the time and by rendering sight in that eye at a level measured by my optometrist as "better than 20/20". I particularly welcomed Dr Lockington's commentary throughout the procedure. That served to keep me informed but also to maintain an emotional connection that emboldened me. His service was very well appreciated.
