I had a upper eyelid lift to both eyes after being referred by my GP. I was very anxious but need not have been. My consultation with Mr David Cheung was much more than I expected. He was very friendly and had read all my notes. He made measurements examined my eyes and explained what had caused my problem and what could be done to correct it. I was very reassured.I was in the day case unit for an afternoon. Before the surgery Mr Cheung came and checked me and again told me what would happen in the theatre. In the theatre I was spoken to and informed about the process throughout. It was more or less pain free and now I wonder why I was so worried initially. I would not be again. I returned home and had some slight discomfort so took two paracetamol. I followed Mr Cheung’s discharge instructions and had no further pain or discomfort. My whole family were amazed how much better I looked. My half closed eyes are now open . Mr Cheung took great care during the procedure to ensure that my eyes looked even and balanced. After six days I returned to the hospital for Mr Cheung to check my eyes. Again very friendly and most thorough. He said to call if I have any problems otherwise he will check on me in three months. The bruising has rapidly reduced and I am delighted at the outcome. I am sure too that my field vision has much improved. However the resultsI have are totally down to the care and skill of Mr Cheung. The whole experience has been very good indeed from the initial consultation ,Mr Cheung ‘s secretary contacting me and the procedure itself. Thank you all so much especially Mr Cheung. I am so lucky to have had such a good caring and very skilful surgeon .I cannot recommend Mr David Cheung enough.

Mr Cheung initially contacted me last year and agreed that I needed my interned lower eye lid needed surgery. He contacted in later to apologise about the delay due to COVID. His explanation of the procedure was very clear describing the mussel which had to be shortened He operated on me on 4th February. The procedure took about 20 mins and I was pleased how neatly it was done. The atmosphere in the operating theatre was very relaxed and appeared to be very efficient and gave me full confidence.

After thinking about it for some time I decided to have upper eyelid surgery last year . Mr David Cheung had been recommended by a friend who was delighted with the results of her surgery . I booked an initial assessment and found him to be very approachable and relaxed in his consultation manner . He did not rush me and he spent time assessing what needed to be done and discussing what procedure he would do . He answered all my questions. I agreed to have an upper lid blepharoplasty . This was going to be done under local anaesthetic and would require 2 weeks of work . I decided to go ahead and he contacted me shortly after by email to arrange a date . I was able to book this to suit my work pattern . On the day of surgery I felt very relaxed and calm , as I was fully aware of what to expect . The nursing staff and Mr Cheung were lovely chatting to me along the way and reassuring me . It was all done very smoothly and efficiently. The recovery was as expected . The bruising took a couple of weeks to settle , I had no pain at all . I emailed photos a couple of times to Mr Cheung to check he was happy with the results . The after care Information and advice was extremely helpful and thorough . I was unable to attend my follow up appointment as I had contracted Covid , but I discussed my progress with him and sent him photos . The whole experience was extremely positive . I felt completely safe and confident in both Mr Cheung and his team . I would have no hesitation at all in recommending him . …..and I was of course absolutely delighted with the result !

I’ve thought about undergoing surgery for years to correct puffiness under my eyes, something I’ve had to deal with all my life. I began researching surgeons and places who could help me but I wasn't all that impressed until I came across David Cheung. Everything I had read about him from his experience to reviews from other patients just filled me with confidence that I would be in very capable hands and so did speaking to my GP who told me she had worked with him in the past and that I had made a good choice which was reassuring. This was my first time to undergo any kind of surgery so I was a little anxious but my consultations with David were great, he was professional, knowledgeable, friendly and easy to speak to. He examined me, talked me through everything in great detail and answered any questions I had. I didn’t feel at any point I was being pressured into something I didn’t want to do and helped me to explore all the other options before I went ahead with a blepharoplasty. I didn’t make the decision at the consultation and was given several handouts with lots of information about the procedure and how to prepare for surgery to take home and read before I confirmed that I wanted to proceed. The surgery took place at the Westbourne Centre and I was both anxious and excited to finally be getting it done but there was nothing to be anxious about. David and his team were fantastic and such a nice bunch of people, they all did everything to make me feel comfortable and were so friendly towards me. Some of the team came to talk me through everything before going into theatre and David came in to check with me before I went in. I was under sedation during my operation as the incision was being made on the inside of my lower eyelid but there was nothing to it and was painless. I don’t even remember falling asleep, one second I was awake and the next I was waking up asking how long they’d been going for which I was told about an hour. Afterwards I was taken into the recovery room where I was able to sit and relax for about half an hour with a cup of tea and some biscuits while they monitored me. After that I was able to go home, they gave me a little bag containing eye drops, painkillers, 2x eye mask to use as a cold compress to take with me and contact number in case I needed to speak to someone. A few hours after I got home there was some bleeding in my right eye but no pain which still worried me so I phoned the number and was asked to send a photo to David via email. He got back to me right away and reassured me that it was normal, nothing to worry about and to keep my eyes closed as much as possible for the rest of the day. He said the wound doesn’t become water tight until around 8-12 hours so I did what he told me. He gave me his phone number in case I felt there was anything urgent and needed to reach him but by the next day it had all cleared up. I always felt like someone was there if I needed them and communication has always been good with David. If I’ve ever had any questions, even before surgery, he always got back to me pretty quickly. I had a bit of a black eye after the surgery but by the next day that had all gone and faded to yellow bruising, my right eye was slightly more swollen but overall very pleased with how quick I recovered and how little bruising there was. I expected a lot more swelling and bruising than there turned out to be. I’m really pleased with the results and feel relieved to be rid of something that’s had a grip on my confidence for so long. I can’t thank David and his team enough and I’m extremely grateful to them all but especially David. Thank you!

I have long known that the one elective surgery I would undertake was blepharoplasty, due to drooping lids at a young age. I chose to have a consultation with David after undertaking research.  There was no question of me going abroad to have any procedure done.  It may be cheaper,  but the potential for something to go wrong, the language barrier and aftercare needs meant staying in the UK was paramount. I went to David with thoughts of upper and lower blepharoplasty (dark circles under eyes).  David was very friendly,  easy to talk to, explaining about every element of the procedures, taking measurements,  doing drawings, really listening to me and understanding my reasons for wanting the op.  Crucially he explained why I was not a suitable candidate for lowers and why alternatives (e.g. fillers) would also not work for me. Being very risk averse I went away from the first consultation armed with lots of information supplied by David and decided not to go ahead.  After 18 further months of deliberation and research I decided to go ahead and booked a further consultation. Shortly afterwards I undertook the procedure at the Westbourne Centre in Birmingham.   From start to finish of the whole process I cannot fault all of the staff I encountered.  All so very polite, friendly and caring, putting me at ease. Throughout the procedure David was his usual calm, reassuring,  friendly and humorous self.   I had approximately 13mm taken from each upper.   I have a medium tolerance to pain and can honestly say the most painful part was administering local anaesthetic to the inner corners of the area nearest my eyebrows (and even that wasn’t so bad).  During the operation I experienced no pain,  just a sensation that something was happening around the area.  I concentrated on staying calm and listening to David's eclectic operating music list and chatting to him and the theatre staff. Post surgery I was very well briefed on what to expect and instructions to follow (which I did to the letter).  The rest of the day after surgery was uncomfortable but after that,  no problems.  It actually looked worse than it felt. I am now 5 months post op and the results of the work are nothing short of amazing.   I no longer look tired and angry,  I wear only the lightest of eye makeup to achieve the look that I couldn’t achieve before and it has bolstered my self esteem no end.  Thank you so much David, I would (and have) recommended you to several people for a job well done.  My only wish is that I’d done it sooner!
