Mr Dan H Williams MBBCh MSc FRCS Mr Dan H Williams is a Consultant Hip & Knee Surgeon who gets hip pain. More than 1 in 5 of us will get hip or knee pain at some point in our lives. Dan's goal is to help people like you (and him!) reduce pain and avoid surgery, for hips and knees that last a lifetime. He practices in Bath and Cornwall- at Bath Clinic, Duchy Hospital and Royal Cornwall Hospital- with an interest in Primary and Revision Hip and Knee Replacement. If joint replacement or joint revision surgery is the right decision for you, the right information at the right time, can help you to get ready for the operation, build back your strength and get you back to doing the things you love quickly. He joined the faculty of the University or British Columbia in Vancouver for a 12-month fellowship in 2008 where the lessons from one of his research papers went on to shape his thoughts and career. That paper is worth a closer look.. https://buff.ly/2vjOv0a It’s people that made the biggest difference to their own health outcome. And that one finding opened Dan’s eyes to what really makes a difference if any of us come to thinking about joint replacement. Dan says: ‘That one result has influenced my treatment philosophy ever since… and continues to help me look after myself, my friends and family and thousands of my patients’. His master’s degree thesis analysing hip resurfacing is part of a strong portfolio of published research. He’s gone on to contribute clinical expertise to national and international journal review and several medical device review boards. More recently as Vice Chair of the European Commission Expert Panel in Orthopaedic surgery. Outside of work Dan’s a keen runner and cyclist. So, keeping his own hip pain settled with a set of evidence-based tools remains a daily priority for him. With a young family he wants 40 more years enjoying all that the outdoors has to offer. Dan has therefore invested in writing about everything hip and knee. He invites you to join 400 other weekly readers of his (free) Lifetime Hip & Knee newsletter. www.danhwilliams.com/#subscribe/
He is very dedicated to patient care. He made me feel like I could enjoy my life and surroundings and get better by walking and exercising regularly. He has a good listening ear and made me feel more confident which has enabled me to enjoy my life better with his suggestions. He is a good listener and enables me to look for new activities such as dancing and my static bike to improve my movement. He has certainly helped me to move forward.

I have nothing but praise for Mr Williams and his team. I was listened to and any queries answered. Treatment at the Duchy Hospital was very good and everything went very smoothly. Most important of all is my hip is pain free and I am able to anything I like. Follow up was done by phone and any points I had were dealt with. I would not hesitate in recommending Mr Williams to others.

I had a partial knee replacement on my right knee,as i had oa on both knees and the right at that time was bone on bone and extremely painful, i saw Mr Dan Williams and was given a partial knee replacement as hed advised, he went through all the options with me and told me any risks involved in the operation, i had the operation and followed all the advise he gave me, and i was surprised how quickly i became mobile again and no pain!! I would always recommend him as a brilliant surgeon , as he listened to any worries i had and advised me in everything, i am now waiting for my left knee replacement by him, and cannot wait as the pain is extruciating and i know the difference it will make to my life again and ill be able to be mobile with no pain in either knee. I couldnt have asked for a better surgeon.

This is 2 years after my Knee surgery. The pre surgery advice and post surgery advice given was excellent. I followed them and because of the pandemic I was able to rebuild my knee strength in that time given the advice of cycling & walking. Having done this I'm pleased to say everything is very much like had I hoped it has become. I feel revitalised and athletically empowered but with caution and control not like in my youth but strong again. Thanks you Mr Dan Williams.

I have recently had a hip replacement by Dan Williams. Prior to the operation he clearly described my options and gave me the pros and cons of each. The surgery went very well and I was in and out in a couple of days. On the follow-up meetings he clearly laid out what I can and more importantly what I should not do during the initial healing stage. He also explained how long the healing process takes and the importance of allowing everything to heal properly. The recovery is frustrating but knowing the long-term benefits of doing it correctly made the process so much easier to tolerate. I now look forward with confidence that the operation which has put an end to the pain will also last for many years into the future. I am now looking forward to getting out cycling again. Thanks to Mr Williams and his team.

I had a partial knee replacement 1 year ago by Dan Williams and I can honestly say he’s given me my life back. For two years prior to surgery I was in excruciating pain unable to walk long distances but apart from a month after the procedure I have no pain at all!! The biggest thing that helped me before surgery and still is, was to be told to use an exercise bike. At first I thought I would be unable to do this but it is the best thing to do not only did it strengthen my upper leg it also helped me to loose weight and inches

Once I was referred to Duchy the service was streamlined and fast. Mr Williams listened, was patient (and through his experience) was able to diagnose and activate an operation date immediately - so reassuring! Operation and recovery went as outlined and follow up appointments gave further reassurance and encouragement I did prepare by losing weight and exercising and am maintaining a healthy lifestyle - now, without chronic and constant pain, I have my life back and it’s amazing! Thank you

Mr Williams would be highly recommended by me. I had hip replacement surgery at the age of 80 and everything went very well. No problems at all following the surgery. I now followed post operative advice carefully and am now able to play a little golf again - 3 months after the surgery. Thank you Mr Williams.
