I was due to have surgery to remove my gallbladder last year. I saw Mr Vickery last February as an urgent patient as I had stones in my gallbladder and in my bile duct. Mr Vickery assured me I would be operated on in the next two months. My operation was cancelled and rearranged three times and then I received a call saying Mr Vickery was no longer going to be my surgeon. I was never told who my surgeon would be. Eventually I had my surgery in October and I had so many stones compacted in my bile duct my operation took five hours. So unfortunately I did not feel I had good care. I never heard from Mr Vickery again.

I had Mr Vickery in 2015 undertake keyhole surgery to correct decades of reflux. I left a comment back then and I'll leave another now because after having acute pancreatitis a couple of years ago, I was delighted when Mr Vickery walked In to my room on the day I had to have my gallbladder removed, also by keyhole. Easy recovery after being a GA day case. No problems with either procedure. Today I bumped into him in Waitrose and we chatted and had a laugh. Such a lovely guy.

In May 2019 I saw Mr Vickery as I had developed symptoms of gall stones/diseased gall bladder. At the 1st consultation I found him friendly, humorous and reassuring. All his explanations were easy to understand, as were the diagrams he drew. Due to various complications, I didn't have my op until 7th October at Bury St Edmunds BMI. Before I went to surgery Mr Vickery came and saw me and was very reassuring. Unfortunately I developed sepsis so was ambulanced to West Suffolk Hospital 2 days later, where I was in for another fortnight. Each day Mr Vickery saw me (sometimes twice), even on the day when I was his only patient in the hospital. He showed me my scans and explained things clearly. Not only did he talk to me, but he also chatted to other patients, even though they weren't his, making us laugh and feel less stressed. 4 days after leaving hospital I was ambulanced in again and he continued giving me great care. Follow up was stress less and I knew I could always contact his secretary if I wished. In December 2020 I developed complications in my bile duct and was admitted to West Suffolk Hospital. As Mr Vickery was still on leave that weekend I had another consultant. However, on the Monday he found out I'd been admitted, so came to see me. He asked if I'd like to have him as consultant, which I did (made sense as he'd been mine before), so he arranged this. On any day he was not in the hospital he texted or rang me to explain why I'd not see him. On the evening before my discharge he came in from home, where he'd had an all day meeting, just to check up that I was happy to go home and to explain again the next steps. I have always found Mr Vickery to be approachable, reassuring, he answers questions in an easily understandable way, is always willing to show me scans etc and he always treat all patients and staff in a courteous, friendly and humorous way.

I was diagnosed with a giant liver cyst in Jan '17 Mr Vickery explained in great detail the operation which he was going to undertake. This however was delayed as during a routine CT scan a Pulmonary Embolism was found. I had to take Warfarin for 4 months to disperse it then had my op. early June. Mr Vickery and his team were simply wonderful, Thank you sooooooo much. Geraldine

Mr Vickery was so positive, professional and friendly. He said he could fix my decade of reflux and he did. I have my life back. He's a meticulous surgeon and enjoys Laparascopic procedures immensely. Thank you so much for listening to me and fixing me.
