Chris Anderson listened attentively to my concerns and responded thoughtfully and authoritatively to my questions, both specific and general. On a couple of points, he illustrated his answers with reference to diagrams or photographs. He showed me the results of my tests and explained his observations with reference to my CT scan, which we viewed together. His observations, advice, his explanation of his approach - blood test, renal CT and DSMA scans, biopsy and rationale for his diagnosis - were consistent with the comments of his colleagues, notably Steve Nguyen, Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT Manager and Radiologist, Dr Das and with the research material I had read (American Cancer Society, Amercian Society of Clinical Oncology, Indian Journal of Radiology and Imaging, University of Florida College of Medicine Department of Urology, as well as Chris Anderson's website). This was enormously helpful and made me feel part of the investigation process. In particular, I wanted to know why a biopsy was proposed when, although research suggested this was prudent (and it seemed logical), Chris Anderson's website said it could provide misleading information. Steve Nguyen said that each tissue sample was extremely small and it was prudent to take a number of these from the tumour to ensure that a representative sample had been acquired. Hence I fully understood the rationale for what seemed a lengthy and uncomfortable procedure when Chris Anderson subsequently told me that Dr Das had taken five samples. It also seemed clear that each specialist involved shared a common perspective on my treatment and appeared accustomed to working together. This was very reassuring throughout a worrying and stressful process.
