I write this review on the assumption that it refers to Professor Brian Davidson at the Royal Free Hospital. I had surgery under Prof Davidson's care earlier this year. At the very first outpatient visit it was clear he was a pretty special clinician. He actually listened to everything I said, he gave me an extraordinarily thorough examination, he had all my records to hand (as I'd been referred from another hospital) and he spent all the time needed to go through my case with my wife and I. We left the consultation room thinking "this is a pretty special clinician". Ultimately he performed an incredibly complex operation on me, taking 11 hours, to remove a cancer for which I'd been written off by another prominent university hospital. During my recovery Prof Davidson visited me on the ward every single day, Sundays included, something I've never known an NHS consultant to do in my past. At each visit, he did not stand back and allow his team to do the difficult bits, but rolled up his sleeves and got stuck in with dressings and double-checking things like fluid charts. I don't yet know if I'm cured but I do know that Prof Davidson is a truly impressive doctor, and one in whose hands you feel totally safe. To cap it all, he has a nice wry sense of humour. Highly recommended.
