From the moment I met Mr. Bhaskar Kumar, I knew I was in the hands of a skilled and caring surgeon. He took the time to thoroughly explain the sleeve surgery procedure, discussing both the benefits and potential drawbacks, ensuring I was fully informed every step of the way. What struck me most was his attentiveness to my needs; I never once felt any concerns about undergoing the surgery, knowing that I was under the care of someone who genuinely cared about my well-being. On the day of the surgery, Mr. Kumar continued to demonstrate his exceptional bedside manner. He checked in on me, easing any nerves I had and ensuring I felt comfortable with the process ahead. Throughout the entire surgical experience, from start to finish, I felt incredibly well taken care of and at ease, thanks to Mr. Kumar's expertise and reassuring presence. I am delighted to report that the surgery itself went smoothly, and I experienced minimal pain afterward. Not only that, but the scars from the surgery are remarkably neat, minimal, and have healed exceptionally well. Since undergoing the sleeve surgery, I have lost an incredible 40 pounds, a testament to Mr. Kumar's skill and precision in performing the procedure. I cannot recommend Mr. Bhaskar Kumar highly enough to anyone considering sleeve surgery. Beyond his surgical talents, his dedication to providing outstanding aftercare service further exemplifies his commitment to his patients' well-being. Thanks to him, I feel like I've been given a new lease on life, and I will always be grateful for the profound impact he has had on my journey to better health. In summary, Mr. Kumar's expertise, precision, and excellent bedside manner make him deserving of a five-star rating in every aspect of his practice. If you're considering surgery, look no further than Mr. Bhaskar Kumar at Spire Norwich Hospital.

Profile

I am trained in advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery, specialising in the treatment of oesophagogastric cancer, gallbladder disease, hiatus hernia repair and anti-reflux surgery as well as open and laparoscopic hernia repair. I also have significant experience in performing upper gastrointestinal endoscopy.

I have been a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal and laparoscopic surgeon at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital since 2014. I qualified from Leeds University Medical School and completed a two year doctorate in medicine (MD) before entering higher surgical training in Yorkshire and the North East of England. I was privileged to gain a vast amount of expertise in the specialist resection of oesophagogastric (OG) cancer in one of the largest OG cancer centres in Europe, the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle upon Tyne under the supervision of Professor SM Griffin OBE. Following completion of my surgical training, I was chosen for an overseas fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery with Prof. David Watson at Flinders Medical Centre, Adelaide, Australia.

In my work in the NHS, I have led the development of an emergency gallbladder surgery service at the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital, improving patient access to prompt treatment of biliary conditions. Alongside busy clinical work, I am involved in postgraduate surgical teaching and training. My research interests include the management of oesophagogastric cancer as well as biliary and upper gastrointestinal diseases.

I have co-authored a leading textbook for the post-graduate FRCS examination in general surgery and have been an invited reviewer for surgical journals.

In all of my work, my primary commitment is to the patient and ensuring they receive the best possible care. My approach to patient care was recognised by the Eastern Daily Press sponsored Norfolk and Norwich Hospital awards when I reached the final round of nominations for the 'Patient Choice- Most Outsanding Individual Member of Staff 2017'.
