I have been under the care of this totally charming, caring, and fantastic neurosurgeon for 12 years now. I was diagnosed with a cervical syrinx secondary to adhesive arachnoiditis which caused me extreme pain and other weird symptoms which were disregarded by my GP. When I saw Mr White on that first consultation all those years ago both my husband and myself knew that I was in safe hands. As syrinx surgery is one of his many specialties. He has operated on my spine four times now with the hope of stopping paralysis of my arms, and to date he has achieved that goal. My last surgery in March was to decompress the syrinx and put in a shunt to drain away excess spinal fluid causing pressure on my spinal cord, and extreme pain. I was in hospital having bowel surgery at the time and because I was experiencing so much pain from my syrinx, I emailed him asking if he could do anything to relieve the pain. I had a reply virtually an hour later with a promise of a visit from him and Laurie that afternoon. We chatted and in his usual calm and reassuring way told me it was probably time to insert a shunt which we had avoided doing for as long as possible. My husband and I were stunned when we asked him when he might be able to operate he said the next morning at 8 am. I was moved to his ward and looked after by him and his team, he visited me every morning and if I had any concerns he always addressed them there and then. His after care is second to none as well, every operation he preformed on me he always telephoned my husband afterwards to tell him how things had gone. I can phone his secretary any time to ask to see him and I will get an appointment straight away. There are very few doctors who you meet in life like Mr White I can name but three who care passionately about their work and patients he is a wonderful neurosurgeon and person. And it seems that I am not the only patient in his fan club, you only have to read all the amazing testimonials from other patients to get the measure of the man. Long may we have him in Nottingham to look after future generations of patients as I for one would follow him to any other hospital he might attempt to move to, there would be a riot of patients outside the doors of the QMC stopping him leaving!! And the moral of this long winded testimonial is that I would without hesitation strongly recommend Mr White to any of my family or friends.
