Mr Shafiq is the most amazing surgeon, I was so apprehensive about having the surgery as I am so very shortsighted in my right eye , as in my left. I have virtually none so this operation was the most scary experience, but at the same time Mr Shafiq put me totally at ease as things were not going to get any better and the sooner I have Surgery the better . I cannot impress enough the care and attention. From this man I had no idea that this would open up a whole New World for me. I never thought I would be able to see the way I can see today , Mr Shafiq recommended a Zeiss toric lens. He said that I would be able to read a numberplate once again, but then I didn’t think that was possible as I couldn’t see a numberplate if it was sat in front of me, the distance that he has put in this lens is unbelievable to see peoples faces from a distance once again to see the grandchildren at the bottom of the garden. Never thought that was possible always believe in the possible that’s my motto. I don’t need contact lenses or glasses only reading glasses and to me that is totally amazing. I have worn glasses since the age of seven and contact lenses from the age of 18 always had eye problems. I only wish I had met this man 11 years ago when I had my left eye cataract removed. I was so afraid of going through with this surgery , but it’s something now I will never regret. Always be grateful to this fantastic Man Sylvia Henry

In September 2020 my optician referred me for cataract surgery to the RVI infirmary. My sight in my left eye was virtually nil. In March 2021 I contacted the RVI to see where I was on the waiting list to be told that the waiting time was 52 weeks plus. I felt my only option was to opt for private treatment. I telephoned the Nuffield hospital and after reading reviews chose Mr Ayad Shafiq. I had a consultation with Mr Shafiq where he explained that a toric lens was the best treatment for my astigmatism. He informed me of the cost and procedure and I went home to consider my options. The following day I telephoned his secretary to arrange surgery. When the day arrived I was admitted to the Nuffield (terrified) I had no reason to be afraid. Mr Shafiq put me at ease. The operation was totally pain free and I went home shortly afterwards. I awoke the next day to crystal clear vision. No pain, no discomfort. I have since had cataract surgery to my right eye and again no pain or discomfort. Prior surgery I wore varifocal glasses constantly. Since surgery I only need glasses for reading. My long vision is amazing. I can't thank Mr Shafiq enough.

The procedure was straightforward and the staff were lovely. The surgeon Mr Ayad Shafiq put me at ease and was friendly - I would definitely recommend him. Had one eye done and my vision is much clearer as a result. Wouldn’t hesitate to get the other one done.

Mr.Shafiq operated on my mother's almost blind eye, whilst she was in her early 90's, giving her very good vision, allowing all sons and daughters to see her for the first time, without the need for glasses. Early this year (2020) Mr.Shafiq operated on my right eye, which suffered from astigmatism & cataract, installing a toric lens, which proved to be very well balanced with the vision of my left eye from day 1. Reading glasses not required now, and recent eye test passed without problem. Cataract developing in my left eye, so looks like I will be returning to Nuffield, to see Mr.Shafiq again.
