The results of the surgery are ultimately what matters most and the results (after two weeks) are absolutely stunning. I have no pain now, whereas I was in agony before the surgery. Clearly, the diagnosis was correct, and the operation was a total success. Recovery time has been amazingly short. I am extremely grateful for Mr Subramanians expertise. The admin prior to admission, however, is a different matter. It needs a serious overhaul. Lack of communication and false information made it a very poor experience from start to finish. I could write a book on the incompetence at every stage prior to admission. I have aleady completed a Nuffield questionaire going into more detail on the omissions, errors and mistakes prior to my operation. Errors made at an administrative level continued right to the bitter end when I was prepped at 0630 and then sat in my paper pants and gown for four hours because no one had told the rep supporting the operation that my op was in the morning. Consequently he was several hours travelling time away whilst I was waiting to be admitted. Overview: No one person had the complete picture and the administrative team was constantly reactive instead of proactive throughout. The Nuffield at Taunton was also was a poor experience again with inconsistent communications (or no communications). The environment was extremely noisy. Nurses worked from mobile computers right outside the room, so you either listened to them talking or suffered the noise from the nearby staff room. It was not a good environment for recovery, but fortunately, I did not have to stay for very long.

I have been under the care of Ashok for a number of years and he has always treated me extremely well, He performed a.number of nerve root block injections on my lower back and eventually a TLIF operation on my lower spine to treat and eventually cure my chronic sciatica, every procedure Ashok performed was successful and I can honestly say he has transformed my life. I would recommend him wholeheartedly he is an extremely friendly highly skilled Surgeon who I have. complete trust in I am forever in his debt!

It would have been nice to have see the consultant pre-op for any last minute questions or concerns It was good to see him post-op for an explanation of what had happened during the surgery although the explanation will probably need repeating during my follow up appointment as I’m not sure how much I can remember I was very pleased with my care throughout my hospital stay.

Mr Subramanian was brilliant, he showed me great empathy & explained everything about my surgery in terms that I could understand which put me at my ease. He recognised that I needed the operation on my spine urgently and I was lucky enough to have this the very next day after seeing him in A&E at Musgrove Park Hospital. I would thoroughly recommend this excellent surgeon and have already done so to two of my friends. His care and kindness to me were exceptional and I am so grateful to him.

Mr Subramanian conducted a text book surgery for my spinal stenosis. I was well informed throughout and supported well by the wider team. A very professional, friendly and competent surgeon. The only constructive feedback I can offer is that more information on post operation recovery could be provided. As a fairly fit 40 year old with a young family I have been relatively mobile after recovery, but also paranoid of pushing too much, especially whilst the bone fuses to the screws. A more formal and tailored recovery package for those first few weeks would have been very useful.
