I was cared for by Mr Ashok Acharya, and from the moment I met him he was very professional and explained everything regarding my surgery, he sent me exercises to improve my walking and listen to my worries and explained everything in great detail.

Mr Acharya was very kind and gentle with our daughter. However, I did find it disappointing that he did not read any of the notes on her history before he saw her. She has special needs (autistic, ADHD and severe anxiety) and he was unaware of this before I pointed this out. I had completed the registration/history forms, and this was included. He also did not recognise the link between autism and bone/joint problems (such as hypermobility). I would expect an orthopaedic consultant to be aware of this. He had a lovely bedside manner, but would be much better prepared for each patient if he took a few moments to look at their history before seeing them.

Response from Mr Ashok Acharya

Response submitted 15/11/25 Thank you for your honest feedback, and I am sorry the consultation did not fully meet your expectations. I always review any pre-consultation notes to prepare, but in this case none were available, so I was unaware of your daughter’s background until our discussion began. I will speak with the clinic staff and my secretarial team to reinforce the importance of ensuring I receive all relevant medical information beforehand, especially when families have taken the time to provide it. Lastly, I was not previously aware of the strong association between autism and hypermobility. As a paediatric orthopaedic surgeon, my work focuses mainly on surgical conditions, but I have worked to broaden my knowledge of non-surgical musculoskeletal issues such as hypermobility spectrum disorder, which are not traditionally included in orthopaedic training. Thanks to you I have learnt something new. Best regards.
