Reviews
Mr Loganathan makes you feel that you are his most important patient.
Mr Loganathan showed the utmost concern as I have serious underlying health issues that make surgery more challenging. He is working with the other consultants who care for me and this gives me confidence. He was courteous and an excellent listener. He also explained the reasons why surgery will be difficult in my case. I feel reassured and hope the actual procedure goes smoothly,
I cannot recommend Mr Loganathan highly enough. He is empathic, approachable and has excellent communication skills, despite the difficulties posed by the coronavirus pandemic. He ensures that his patient has the information necessary to make an informed choice about their treatment options. I felt total confidence in his care from the start until my discharge. Preparation for my surgery was thorough, I was given several opportunities to ask further questions, and I saw Mr Loganathan immediately before going to theatre.
My surgery was uncomplicated, completely successful and my recovery seamless. I saw either my consultant or his registrar every day post operatively and was given helpful advice on discharge.
I have no suggestions for improvement, I was completely satisfied with all aspects of my care.
I was admitted to the Northern General Hospital as an emergency on 5th February 2021. After tests it was diagnosed that I was suffering from Acute Colitis inflammatory bowel disease. I was seen by a number of consultants and surgeon Professor Brown and given infliximab which seemed to work and so it was believed that surgery was no longer required. However, a few days later test results showed that the infliximab had not been successful and emergency laparoscopic subtotal colectomy and end ileostomy was required but Professor Brown was not available due to it being half term.
I was initially assigned another surgeon for the 18th February but this had to be rescheduled due to the previous patient's surgery taking longer than expected.
On the 19th February, without having been part of the previous consultations, Mr Arun Loganathan took on my surgery. I am pleased to say that the surgery was a huge success, the incisions are nice and neat and much smaller than I had been informed that they would be and so I was extremely pleased with these and have healed very well. The stoma is also nice and small and easily manageable (much smaller than ones I have seen being shared on social media since and I am also really pleased with this too).
After surgery Mr Arun Loganathan made regular visits to check on my progress and answer any questions and concerns and he did so thoroughly and also gave me further advice about managing things as I was obviously very new to this and only had questions from leaflets that I had been given to read so this additional advice was very welcome and has been very useful as well as crucial to my recovery.
I have had a further consultation with Mr Arun Loganathan at the Northern General Hospital, in person, and this was, again, very helpful and beneficial. I am generally recovering well, advice from Mr Arun Loganathan has helped me manage my stoma, gain weight and cope with performing regular exercise.
I cannot thank Mr Arun Loganathan (and the whole team at the Northern General) enough and I also cannot recommend him highly enough either. Excellent surgery and excellent follow up and after care too.
Thank you.
