In August 2017 Mr Khan saved my life following an emergency operation for a twisted large bowel. I had a laparotomy, one third of my large bowel was removed and an illeostomy. The care, attention and information I received in the two weeks I stayed in Leighton firstly in the Critical Care unit, then Ward 13, from the Stoma nurses and particularly from Mr Khan and his team was on the whole excellent. Mr Khan is clearly an expert in his field, he is very calm and completely open and honest when dealing with you. He will answer all your questions and concerns and you do not feel rushed at all. From the outset Mr Khan felt confident that I would be able to have a Stoma reversal operation and 8 months later I was back in Leighton and Mr Khan operated again. During my first stay in Leighton I did have a bad reaction to morphine and suffered from hallucinations but Mr Khan changed the painkilling drugs during my second stay and I had no problems. My stay in Leighton was less than a week and again Ward 13 looked after me so well. It has now been a further 4 months since that operation and my recovery has gone better than I ever expected. In my follow up meeting with Mr Khan I was told that if I ever needed to see him again I should not hesitate to contact him but this has not been needed. I just want to pass on my sincere thanks and gratitude to Mr Khan, Leighton Hospital and the whole NHS for everything you have done for me. A Forster

Once diagnosed with cancer, I received excellent service and care. I felt Mr. Khan was sensitive to my situation, particularly in relation to obtaining results from scans and biopsies. I had complete confidence in him and his team. He was approachable in that I felt able to ask any questions relavent to my condition. I am and will remain extremely grateful to him for giving me a new life . I feel restored both physically and psychologically after years of discomfort. Thank you.

I owe my life to Mr Khan and his wonderful Team. Having been admitted as an emergency patient,Mr Khan saved my life twice and performed life saving major surgery to enable me to lead a fully normal life without the need to take any medication. I was informed in a very calm polite manner of my situation, treatment and aftercare and was put at ease by the health care specialists and nurses every step of my long stay at Leighton Hospital. Mr Khan and the colorectal team which supports him are, to my mind, probably the most efficient and sensitive team I have met. From the very outset he was candid but gentle in delivering what can be a shell shock diagnosis not only to the patient but also their families, who have to struggle with taking onboard this news. As soon as Mr. Khan provided the diagnosis (2012 tumour in the rectum) his team, led by Heather, just jumped into action: Phone call informing us of appointment dates. Meeting at the Hospital to explain about the dreaded "bag" and what to expect. Telling us how the radiotherapy ahead of surgery was used and why. When I had my operation Mr. Khan came around in the morning alongside Heather, talked through how I would feel after etc (this was 8am in the morning). I had my surgery and that evening at 8pm possibly later, Mr. Khan appeared again - cool, calm and collected just to check I was ok. 15 months later, back in for a reversal (to reconnect the bowel and dispense with the bag). Same incredible care and flow of information and now, almost six years later, I am in great shape and today, 16th April, signed of by the most gentle of gentlemen, Mr. Khan. To individuals who are diagnosed and families who are taken into the care of this wonderful team, all I can say is trust them, let them get on with what they do best and they will continually have you at the heart of everything they do. You truly feel as if you are the only patient they have - that truly is a gift. Ian

I have nothing but praise for the treatment provided by Mr Kahn. At all my clinic visits, Mr Kahn has been polite, considerate, friendly and clear. As far as I am concerned, Mr Kahn carried out the operation (laproscopic high anterior resection) faultlessly. My post operative recovery was quick and three years on, I have had no spead of the cancer to other internal organs (I was also fortunate the cancer was caught early & required no chemotherapy) and my small laproscopic scars are almost invisible. Having said all that, I recognise that to do a good job, Mr Kahn needs a good team supporting him. Again, my experience was first class. Every single member of staff I encountered; endoscopists, radiologists, nurses (both hospital & Macmillan) and auxillary staff were efficient, kind and courteous. The various parts of the hospital I used were all good. Lest it be thought all this is too good to be true, I do have one complaint; the awfulness of the cup ‘a soup I had to endure when I was on a no solids diet immediately after the operation!
