A superb surgeon. Fully engaged at assessment stage, pre-op and post-op. Mr Rate is most open and to the point. His skill and knowledge are second to none. A professional in the true sense, and supported by the the excellent team at Fairfield Hospital I tip my hat to them all. I look forward to an improved quality of life. A heartfelt thank you indeed.

As a registered nurse that was recently admitted to Oldham hospital as a patient with cholecystitis/ gallstones that ultimately resulted in a cholecystectomy. I would just like to say how grateful I am for Mr Rate and his amazing surgical team for the excellent care/ expertise and professionalism during my stay. Not only did Mr Rate fulfil all my expectations of what an established/ experienced and extremely busy consultant/ surgeon should be. I was pleasantly surprised by the professionalism, care and compassion that Mr rate was able to offer me throughout my whole experience despite his and his teams heavy workload. Not only was my surgery a great success, Mr rate himself took the time out of his busy schedule to come and see me post surgery. The care throughout my stay was nothing short of exceptional and for that I am truly grateful. I am recovering well and soon hope to be back working alongside these amazing individuals.

After being and feeling poorly during Covid with gallbladder issues. Mr Rate conducted various tests and the a Gastroscopy which confirmed the issue with my Gallbladder and booked me rapidly in for surgery. After initially failing pre op because of my underlying asthma. I was transferred to another operating list at Fairfield. And in May 2021 the gallbladder has been removed and I’m looking forward so much to a better quality of life. Mr Rate is extremely professional, but also kind and considerate to the Patient and competently knowledgeable in his field of expertise. He is also a highly regarded surgeon by his peers, staff and the hospitals in the North West he conducts his surgery from.

My mother was under the care of Dr Rate. He showed nothing but arrogance and lack of care. Dr Rate had operated on my mother for a mild gallstone only to find he didn’t carry out the surgery properly and failed to stitch her properly. On the 3rd day she almost died and was put into a coma. It took her 6 weeks to get out of coma and a further 2 months to leave the hospital. After going through all this torture and pain each and every time I would speak to Dr Rate he would always avoid to speak to me or avoid me. I later lost my loving wife after 4 months. She was a fighter and struggled severely for this duration. AVOID Dr Rate at any cost. Take this advice from a broken husband. Thanks for reading.

Although his bedside manor leaves alot to be desired. He is brilliant at his job. Says it as it is. If hes not happy to do something will not hesitate to tell you. This surgeon has kept me alive for the past 12 years now, even tho I've never been the easiest of patients hes never turned me away! It looks like he likes a challenge! I would recommend, till me dying breath!!
