A year ago today Andrew Carrothers performed my Mako Robotic Arm Assisted Total Knee Arthroplasty. Immediately following surgery I felt no pain or discomfort; medication to control it was very effective. Being discharged with an array of pain relief tablets was very reassuring and I can truly say I have experienced no pain, ache or discomfort during the weeks and months of my recovery. With the help of a Physiotherapist movement and mobility has steadily improved. Today the prosthetic knee is happy, supple and at one with my body. I attribute this excellent outcome to the first-rate surgical skill of Andrew Carrothers. His deep empathy and dedication to helping others shines through. The added bonus: Andrew is so personable.....just lovely.

The doctor explained why I needed the surgery very clearly and then explained to me what the operation involved step by step..He could see I was very nervous about it all and very calmly talked to me about it all and said they had done the procedure many times. At the end of the consultation I was happy to go ahead with the reconstruction and the hip replacement.

I had a hip replacement in September, 2022. Within 4 months I could walk 7.5 miles again. Exercises were done both before and after the operation. I have now been discharged.

Mr Carrothers was highly recommend to me by another client of my physiotherapist who was treating me for my torn meniscus. I had already been to a consultant who had been unsympathetic, insensitive and not a bit proactive about my knee. I am a fit and active 61 year old lady and wanted to do all I could to retrain my knee back into walking a good distance, running, biking and swimming having torn the meniscus in my right knee. My first consultation with Mr Carrothers was so positive; I felt he listened to what I said..and understood what I was asking. After X-rays and an MRI scan Mr Carrothers suggested a knee arthroscopy to trim the torn meniscus and “tidy up” the inside of my knee; he explained the procedure and what to expect afterwards. On the day of my operation, I was treated impeccably at the hospital..it was my first experience of a general anaesthetic so I was nervous but Mr Carrothers and his team were just brilliant. After my operation I was up and walking within an hour or so. Within 3 weeks I was experiencing just mild discomfort and after my 6 week check (today!) my knee is doing well. I am already walking for up to an hour at a time and biking with no problem. I must add too that after 6 weeks my arthroscopy scars are tiny and are very difficult to see on my kneecap! I have no hesitation in recommending Mr Carrothers both for his surgical skills and knowledge.. and for his care and understanding. Thank you so much.

In January 2023 Mr Carrothers performed a uni compartmental partial knee replacement on my right knee and in June 2023 he performed the same operation on my left knee. I was apprehensive about operating on my left knee so soon after the right knee but I found the whole experience much easier second time around. Recovery seemed quicker (even though the first few weeks were still very difficult) and I am very happy to be back to my normal work schedules and routines. Being able to walk tall and with no pain is amazing. I have no hesitation in recommending Mr Carrothers and his team to anyone who is considering this operation.
