I had my first consultation with Mr Carrothers towards the end of 2022. My MRI showed Osteoarthritis damage to both knees. Mr Carrothers suggested that due to the significant impact on my daily life, I should consider a Mako Robotic Uni-compartmental knee operation on both knees. I am a nervous person, I felt Mr Carrothers calm, measured, pragmatic approach and explanation of the damaged condition of my knees made me feel safe and confident to procede with the operation. I had my Mako partial knee operation at the end of January 2023. The care I received from Mr Carrothers, Dr Mahroof ( anaesthetist) and his team was exceptional - I am very grateful for the wonderful job they did of relaxing me pre -operation ! The operation has been a great success, the first couple of weeks were challenging but I am now back to my normal routine and my knee strength continues to improve. I will be putting myself in the safe hands of Mr Carrothers and his team for the Mako partial knee operation on my left knee in the next few months.

Mr Carrothers is polite, professional, amiable and an expert in his field. I had a Mako total hip replacement in January and was back to normal by the end of March. Mr Carrothers and his team were efficient and caring during my stay at the Spire and I would highly recommend them and the Spire.

In 2020 after experiencing pain I was diagnosed with arthritis in my hip, but my NHS GP declined to place me on the waiting list for an NHS Operation saying my age, 83 years at the time, and my mild COPD made it not financially viable. In late 2022 aged 85 and following gradually increasing and extremely severe pain on movement and walking, I consulted Mr Carrothers privately and he advised me he could find no barriers to me having surgery and recommended “Robotic Surgery” which he explained and which I accepted. I had a total hip replacement shortly afterwards at the Nuffield Hospital, Cambridge in February 2023 and I awoke after the operation with no pain and was slowly walking with crutches in my room that evening. I was an in-patient for 3 days receiving superb care from nursing, medical and physiotherapy staff. Following hospital discharge I walked with two elbow crutches without pain for 3 weeks, then one crutch for two weeks, prior to discarding them completely and walking for more than one mile on a countryside footpath with no discomfort after five weeks. I found Mr Carrothers to be kind, patient, caring and considerate and very professional, providing ‘easy to understand’ medical explanations and I would have no reservations in recommending his services and those of the Nuffield Hospital.

I have hd both hips replaced by Dr. Carrothers in the last 14 months. His care and that of his anaesthetist Dr. Mahroof, was outstanding on both occasions. I chose Symbio implants and made excellent progress- fingers crossed -my Physio said it one of the fasted recoveries she has seen.(She is quite young though!) His consideration and concern were both truly extraordinary, not forgetting his technical expertise as well in the operations. Highly recommended.

I met Mr. Carrothers after receiving a recommendation. I found Andrew to be a wise, relatable, and easy-going person, who kept the conversation on track with logical and relevant information that was specific to the issue at hand. This goes a long way to keeping my mind calm and reassured about what we were dealing with and what needed to be done. I experienced no anxiety or worry whatsoever in my conversations with Andrew. Andrew was also able to take into account that I am profoundly deaf and that I rely a lot on lip-reading. He faced me when speaking and ensured that I understood everything as we were having a conversation, so I wouldn't be lost at any point. It was clear from the outset after looking at the MRI scan that a procedure had to be done to sort out the issue with the meniscus. The operation went very well, and my rehabilitation has so far exceeded my expectations, allowing me to rediscover and remember the feeling of long-lost freedom that a healthy knee provides. My rehab continues today and I experience a deep sense of optimism for the future. I wholeheartedly recommend Mr. Carrothers for both consultations and procedures to have my best interest at heart, including restoring my knee’s ability to function again!
