I would highly recommend Mr Chandra without hesitation as an amazing eye surgeon. Was terrified of having cataract surgery, however procedure very quick and painless. Didn’t have any symptoms after the surgery eg feeling of grit in the eye or redness, none of that. Vision in that eye is so clear and a massive improvement as couldn’t see very well out of it before! So very happy. Thank you to Mr Chandra!

Mr Chandra was very pleasant and professional throughout my appointments. He explained the problem I had and discussed options available to me clearly, asking if I had any questions. He outlined the procedure and answered my concerns and worries honestly. On the day of my surgery Mr Chandra was very considerate and reassuring as I was quite nervous. The operation, to repair a macular hole and also deal with a cataract, went just as he had explained. I would have no hesitation in recommending Mr Chandra or in contacting him again if I require further surgery in the future.

Following a sight test I was diagnosed with a Macular Hole in my left eye. I was referred to the NHS however, after making some initial enquiries, I realised there are long waiting lists for eye treatments. So, as this is a condition which usually deteriorates the longer it is left, I decided to opt for private treatment. As a consequence I was able to select my preferred consultant and following extensive research, selected Dr Chandra. From then onwards it was clear that I had made the right decision. Dr Chandra inspires trust and confidence. We agreed that a combined Vitrectomy and Cateract operation would be the best option and I was able to select a convienient date and time for treatment at the Southend Private Hospital. Circle Health also offered interest free payments spread over 10 months which enabled me to afford the treatment. I experienced no discomfort at any time either during or after the operation. Dr Chandra advised that there would be no need for me to 'posture' i.e. lie face down for lengthy periods after the operation. Many other consultants still insist on this procedure but depending on the size of the macular hole, Dr Chandra takes a more flexible approach. I have just been for my final consultation and the macular hole is fully closed so the treatment has been a complete success. Before the operation I could not read a single line on the eye test with my left eye now I can read all the lines. There remains a very small amount of distortion but this will improve with time. Consequently I would not hesitate to highly recommend Dr Chandra for the treatment of Macular Holes or any other eye condition.

Mr Chandra listens carefully to my concerns and makes a very thorough assessment. He then offers me a range of choices , along with any risks and disadvantages. I first saw him about retinopathy about 5 years ago and have annual follow up ever since. He explained how laser treatment would work well but there was risk of loss of peripheral vision such that I may not be able to drive. He also assured me 'You will not go blind from this' which was incredibly important. That reassurance rings in my ears frequently! Following laser, my retinopathy is stable and I can still pass the DVLA vision test - I am grateful for Mr Chandra's skill and judgement in carrying out the treatment. More recently I have had cataract surgery which again was totally successful. I was grateful that during the follow up he advised me about my concerns about a completely unrelated recurrent eye problem. Finally - when I first saw Mr Chandra he identified an odd change in my eye. The diagnosis really seemed to depend on the duration. He allowed me time to confirm with my previous consultant (who had now moved to Australia) what had been going on and this saved anxiety and potential overtreatment.

He is very knowledgeable in his field and I would thoroughly recommend him to anybody who was in need of any eye treatment.
