Written by a carer at Furness General Hospital

Mr Baqai - Well what can I say... not only is an incredible doctor, right up there with the very best of them, he is friendly and approachable too. We are so fortunate to have him at Furness General. He operated successfully on my husband's broken leg. Hubby was a very sick man so could only have local anaesthesia. I and the family will be forever grateful to him.

Profile

I have been with this trust since 2000. I was Royal college surgical tutor am still actively involved in teaching and training of junior doctors. I am member of Faculty of examiners of Royal College, regularly conduct examinations. You may find medical students and trainee doctors at various stages of their training programme in attendance at my clinics and other areas within my control; this will not affect your care, but helps an academic discussion in my patient’s presence. However if someone does not feel comfortable we do that that into consideration.
I feel training young doctors is one of the major contribution and investment for NHS future to continue delivering high standards of service.
I am Lower limb orthopaedic surgeon with special interest in soft tissue knee injury and foot and ankle. I do routinely perform lower limb joint replacement that includes Knee and Hips. I have over 15 years’ experience of managing soft tissue knee injury including ACL reconstruction. All my patients fill scoring sheath both pre and post-operative in follow up clinic. I am quite happy with my results especially seeing the patient’s subjective end scoring outcome.
Most of my work load is related to Foot and Ankle, and I am the only orthopaedic surgeon on this side of Morecambe bay providing foot and ankle service.
We work in close consultation with our colleagues, seeking help when in need; therefore there is some healthy overlap in service that we provide.
