He immediately knew the problem and the solution which was clearly explained to me. Trust and confidence in his ability was evident by his manor.

I went to see Adrian on a friend's recommendation. I liked him personally and thought his approach was excellent both before and after the procedure. Of course the real proof of his high standards is in the rapid progress that I have made since the operation. The feedback he gave me at each post operative appointment was an important factor in my rehab. Of course it was be much more convenient if consultations pre and post op were in Central London even if the operation itself is carried out at Parkside.

I was initially shocked by the diagnosis that I need a total knee replacement. However Mr Fairbank explained the situation and set out the options clearly and frankly, which was what I wanted. The operation and aftercare went well, and I am leading a normal life though still with added physiotherapy exercises to continue to build up strength. Considering the operation was only 4 months ago this is amazing.

I can unreservedly recommend Mr Adrian Fairbank and all his team at Wimbledon Clinics to anyone requiring a total knee replacement: After tolerating degenerative cartilage pain in both knees for quite some years – temporarily relieved, to some extent, by arthroscopies – Mr Fairbank had no difficulty persuading me to opt for total replacements of both knees. His professional, thorough diagnosis coupled with attentiveness and a compassionate attitude - and the trouble taken to answer all my questions - ensured a trusting relationship. My wife’s concerns were equally not neglected. Any hesitations I might have had in going ahead were quickly dispelled. After faithfully following the recommended pre-op exercises my right knee was successfully replaced by Mr Fairbank and his Parkside Hospital surgery team 10 months ago. Recovery was almost pain-free. The regular physical checks coupled with the post-op hydro and land therapy sessions ensured excellent progress was made and there was no difficulty accepting Mr Fairbank’s recommendation to proceed with replacement of my left knee. This was successfully carried out 4 months ago. Whilst understanding that no two knees necessarily recover in the same timeframe, once again the experience was painless and faster progress was made on all fronts. Mr Fairbank is supported by a full professional team who contributed in their different ways to my wellbeing. All, without exception, went out of their way to help and encourage me at all stages during the in-patient and subsequent recovery process. I am indebted to the nursing staff for their friendliness, dedication and patience - underlined by the unexpected warmth with which I was greeted on revisiting just to have my dressings checked out. The hydro and land physiotherapy staff are second to none. Without their guidance, encouragement and fine-tuning of my exercise regime, particularly for the post-op daily stints at home, progress would have been very difficult indeed. There were no exceptions to the warmth and helpfulness which I encountered at all points from receptionists, back-room staff, porters, etc, etc. The replacements have ensured I now have totally pain-free knees with unrestricted mobility. Much time has had to be devoted to the daily follow-up exercises, Cryo-Cuff cooling, Knee Hab muscle stimulation and Bio Oil scar massaging, but, gratifyingly, I am now back even to my full norm gym regime. Power-walks have been resumed and I will return to playing doubles tennis next month. The tricky challenge previously presented by the descent of subway stairs is a distant memory. Life will return to full normality when I recommence my business trips to Japan next month.

I first saw Adrian Fairbank about 20 months ago who, after then usual X-Ray and MRI scans, said I would eventually require a total knee replacement on my right knee but the timing of when to have the operation was very much up to me. In August 2016, although I was still reasonably mobile, I decided at the age of 71 to go ahead with the operation before I became totally restricted. Adrian and his team at Wimbledon Clinics are based in the grounds of the Parkside Hospital, close to Wimbledon Common. Adrian's very helpful team at Wimbledon Clinics organised everything with Parkside directly. Adrian operates on Tuesdays and the expected stay at Parkside is four days, allowing you to leave on the Saturday. As soon as I arrived I was visited by both Adrian and the anaesthetist, who explained what was going to happen and answering any questions. All went to plan. The operation is quite 'physical' and inevitably leads to considerable bruising and swelling. You have hardly woken up before the physios are encouraging you to stand up and do all sorts of painful things - they can be very persuasive! Over the four day period the very experienced and friendly hospital staff were extremely attentive in all regards. A combination of regular basic exercises plus aqua-therapy with the physios, and constant cold packs on the swollen knee and thigh meant I was able to 'walk-out' of Parkside as planned on the Saturday. When at home I made full use of the equipment recommended by Adrian to help reduce the swelling and strengthen the muscles, and I closely followed all the exercise plans and treatments provided by the physios. I was surprised as to how mobile I was within two weeks, and walking moderate distances inside one month. I have to give Adrian's experienced surgical skills and the physios follow up treatment much of the credit for my relatively quick recovery. At all times I found Adrian to be a good, caring, listener who not only fixed my knee, but helped refer me to a consultant rheumatologist to sort out a problem that had been nagging me for years. I am now on a very small dose of steroids which, combined with my new knee, has made me fit enough and eligible to qualify for the Russian gymnastic team at the 2020 Olympics - if I can just sort out the passport issue.... I would thoroughly recommend Mr Adrian Fairbanks and his team at Wimbledon Clinics to anyone who has a knee problem. So far my left knee is still in good working order, but if that were to give me problems, I know where to go to get it fixed... but hopefully not anytime soon.
