I went for a diagnostic colonoscopy on 27th August 2022 after having submitted a sample to The Bowel Screening Service 2 weeks earlier. I had a number of polyps removed one of which was found to be cancerous. I was referred to the surgical team and in November I had a left hemicolectomy performed by Mr Farquharson and his team. From my first interaction with the hospital, all the way through to my post operative care, I received very professional treatment from a very dedicated team of people. My recovery has been excellent and I only experienced a couple of weeks of discomfort. I am fortunate not to require any further treatment but will continue to be monitored. This particular service is one that the Shrewsbury Hospital should be very proud of.

I would like to give my most sincere thanks to Mr. Farquharson and his team for the wonderful care and treatment that I received during my surgery for Bowel Cancer in September. I had not been in any pain, or other indication of anything untoward. However a Blood Test indicated severe anaemia which lead to further investigations before Mr. Farquharson advised that I had Bowel Cancer and needed an urgent operation. Mr. Farquharson was very honest, supportive and reassuring throughout the whole experience and was able to put me at ease for such a big operation. I was very impressed by his expertise, manner and professionalism, and I am eternally grateful to him and his team.

In november 2018 I was diagnosed with bowel cancer. I was referred to Mr Farquason and quickly (within 6wks) admitted and operated on. I had an illiostomy for 8months and then a reversal. It was not an easy experience, but I was supported and advised by Mr Farqueson and his wonderful team of colorectal nurses for as long as I needed them. I was checked with a C. T scan annually, which was very reassuring, they were always clear. I think the scan I had in 1921 was my last and it was negative. I feelnow I was so fortunate to have had a surgeon with the expertise, enthusiasm and professional dedication to his work. I am so greatful that I have been helped to be free of bowel cancer and can continue to enjoy life. Thank you Mr Farquason and your team.

I was in agony and had been for a few days!! Mr Farquharson shocked me by saying my emergency operation may cause them to take away some bowel and give me a bag!! I did need some bowel taken but no bag. Although I thought he was a little abrupt to start with he performed the op and told me everything- he couldn’t have been nicer. I attended a check up clinic 12 months later. Absolutely satisfied and thankful for his expertise and kindness. Liz Broomhall
