I am a full time NHS Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with a special interest in Cataract Surgery, Medical Retina & Uveitis. I graduated from Heidelberg University [Germany] in 1999 and completed my PhD equivalent in Immunology in a joint venture between Heidelberg University and The Mayo Clinic [Rochester, USA] with first class honours ['magna cum laude']. I trained as a Specialist Registrar at the University of Mannheim and then completed a series of fellowships in Glaucoma, Medical Retina and Uveitis in Cheltenham, Cardiff and Bristol before being appointed to a permanent NHS Consultant post at the North Devon District Hospital in Barnstaple in 2009. I was awarded several clinical excellence awards by the Northern Devon Healthcare Trust in 2011, 2013 and 2015 for leading a high quality service and contributing to the NHS through research and innovation as well as teaching and training. My 360 degree patient feedback is consistently excellent and stands at 5.8/6.0 in 2019. I hold a certificate of standardised ophthalmic ultrasound which enables me to detect abnormalities behind the eyeball. My surgical complication rate is very low at 0.2%.
